Desmoncus

  • ... that most species in the palm genus Desmoncus climb using grappling hook-like structures called acanthopylls? Source: "The name is derived from the Greek words desmos, meaning a band, and ogkos, meaning a hook, in reference to the climbing hooks, or acanthophylls on the leaves" (p.3) and "This climbing organ can be defined as a distal section of the rachis which does not bear pinnae but rather acanthophylls" (Henderson, Andrew (2011). A revision of Desmoncus (Arecaceae). Phytotaxa. 35 (1): 1–88)
    • ALT1:... that ...? Source: "You are strongly encouraged to quote the source text supporting each hook" (and [link] the source, or cite it briefly without using citation templates)

  • This looks fine to me. Expanded 5x; long enough; reliably sourced; neutrally (and well) written, and spot checks show no obvious problems. QPQ has been done. The hook looks interesting enough and is reflected in the article. Prioryman (talk) 15:16, 29 March 2020 (UTC)
