Harold W. Chase[edit]

  • ... that Harold W. Chase was a professor, a general, and a secretary? Source: "Harold Chase, University of Minnesota professor of political science and a former Defense Department official, died in San Diego Wednesday of a heart attack. [...] He was also a former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense and a brigadier general in the Marine Corps Reserve." [1]
  • Reviewed: Israeli occupation of the West Bank
  • Comment: February 6 would have been his 97th birthday. That would be a good date to run it if this nomination can be reviewed by then.

  • New enough, long enough, neutrally written, well referenced, no close paraphrasing seen. One image fair use, others freely licensed. But the hook isn't so hooky. He had such an illustrious career; can you come up with a more interesting fact? QPQ done. Yoninah (talk) 21:18, 21 January 2019 (UTC)
I thought the two meanings of "secretary" might be enough to bring in some readers. But if you like, I'll propose some others. Give me a few days to wrangle the offline sources. Lagrange613 03:24, 22 January 2019 (UTC)
How about...
  • ALT1: ... that Harold W. Chase argued that conscription in the United States benefited the Air Force, Navy, and Marines at the expense of the Army? Source: "Experience has shown, [Chase] recalled, that young men facing the draft in the past often chose to volunteer for the Air Force, the Navy and the Marines and that the Army got its new men from 'the lower end of the pool.'" Hoffman, Fred S. (August 19, 1980). "No evidence registration boosted reserve strength". Associated Press.
  • ALT2: ... that Harold W. Chase taught at Huế University while serving as a psychological operations officer during the Vietnam War? Source: Biographical sketch in Senate record

  • Thank you, ALT1 is a great hook IMO. Offline hook ref AGF (although cited here) and cited inline. ALT1 good to go. Yoninah (talk) 13:15, 25 January 2019 (UTC)
