- 4438 characters of prose, created August 10, and sourced to prominent news articles and obituaries. I do think the first hook is the more notable one, though it sounds a little informal. Perhaps "first to make public his same-sex relationships" would also work. If we want to say "one of the first", I also might suggest adding the year he came out to both the hook and the article, which I believe is 1982, with his autobiography.
