Jacob Little

[edit]
  • ... that Jacob Little's successful speculations on the stock market made him one of the richest men in America in the 1830s and 40s, but he nonetheless died in ignominy and is all but forgotten today?

  • Everything Article looks good to me, but wouldn't some play on "Little" and "great bear" make for a more interesting hook?  —SMALLJIM  18:35, 16 February 2013 (UTC)
For instance, ALT1 ... Jacob Little, the Great Bear of Wall Street, died in ignominy after making and losing several fortunes?  —SMALLJIM  20:50, 16 February 2013 (UTC)
Hmm, good point, but I want to get his status as a speculator more directly into the hook. How about: ... that the famed speculator Jacob Little, the Great Bear of Wall Street, died in ignominy after making and losing several fortunes? ResMar 01:30, 17 February 2013 (UTC)
Let's call that ALT2 then. Personally I think less is more: keep 'em guessing as much as possible. I'd actually have preferred something like:
ALT3 ...the Great Bear Jacob Little died in ignominy after making and losing several fortunes?
leaving even more uncertainty about what sort of bear we're talking about, but I didn't think the cited refs supported the removal of Wall Street.
Have you reviewed another editor's nomination?  —SMALLJIM  14:11, 17 February 2013 (UTC)
Sorry, I've been mightily busy: Template:Did you know nominations/Tornada (Occitan literary term). ResMar 14:50, 18 February 2013 (UTC)
Thanks. I've struck the original hook - whichever ALT hook is chosen, we're good to go.  —SMALLJIM  16:00, 18 February 2013 (UTC)
