Ken Balcomb
- ... that Ken Balcomb, an expert orca researcher, could often identify individual animals just by their whale song? Source: “ He rigged his home, on the northwest shore of San Juan Island, with a stereo linked to hydrophones out in the water. When an orca passed, he could often identify its whale song.” NY Times

- Article is long enough and was new enough (moved from draft) when nominated. Inline citations look fine, tone is neutral, hook is interesting, QPQ done. Unfortunately, copyvio check flags a significant problem. Fix that, and it's GTG. HouseOfChange (talk) 04:15, 16 January 2024 (UTC)
- @HouseOfChange: Thank you for your review. The copyvio is a false positive. I took the flagged section from the Orca article. The orca article was copied at some point onto the other website. Thriley (talk) 04:23, 16 January 2024 (UTC)
- The copied section from the Orca article will need to be 5x expanded per WP:DYKSPLIT; what this means is that the Balcomb article needs expansion, not the specific section of the article. As it runs 1084 prose characters, the article needs to be 5420 prose characters and it's currently 3171. The article will need to be expanded by another 2249 prose characters in order to qualify for DYK. BlueMoonset (talk) 15:16, 16 January 2024 (UTC)

@Thriley and BlueMoonset: It has been a week since the above need for 5x expansion was noted, but little progress has been made towards expanding the Ken Balcomb article. Therefore, I am marking this for closure as ineligible for DYK. Z1720 (talk) 15:02, 24 January 2024 (UTC)
