Nathan Gafuik

  • Article is 1465 char/not yet long enough for DKY as 1500 char are required, but you can assuredly get the adequate number of characters by adding the hook facts to the article. Moved from draft to article on Dec. 21, nom Dec. 22/new enough. Neutrally written. No apparent copyvios. Fully cited. No image. No QPQ done, but does not appear that Redfiona99 has ever done a DYK before, thus one would not be required. Hook at 108 char/under maximum. Is interesting, however, it is not stated in the article. Article only says has Addison's Disease (I linked that in the hook). Check age. Both sources that mention an age say he was 15 hook says 12. Maybe it is just a typo in the hook? I also don't see any sourcing that says he won an individual commonwealth gold. Sourcing says he won 2 silvers 1 for vault 1 for all around in 2006. There is the statement here that says he won gold at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in India, but I find no other source and can't tell if that was an individual or team win or for what apparatus. This says he won the gold in the 2010 Pacific Rim tournament in Melbourne. Which is confirmed by this which is not a good source but still confirmation that it was an individual win. The hook facts have to be stated in the article and followed immediately by a citation. Doesn't have to be in a single sentence, but must be confirmed. Hook needs to state what is verifiable. If he didn't win individual gold, you should say in the hook that it was silver or the hook is misleading. If he won individual gold, the fact must be clearly cited in the article. Please let me know if you have questions. Ping me when you have made corrections. SusunW (talk) 04:49, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
Thank you very much for this review. The 12 is a typo, sorry about that. The Commonwealth gold was in the team event at the 2006 Commonwealths, and it now says this in the article. I couldn't find any mention of him in the official 2010 Commonwealths results, so I suspect the 2014 Commonwealths page has him confused with another Canadian gymnast who did win at 2010. I also couldn't find a reliable source for the 2010 Pacific Rim win, although I will look again.
Would it be possible to change the hook to

ALT1 ... that multiple Commonwealth Games medal winning gymnast Nathan Gafuik was diagnosed with Addison's Disease at the age of 15?" or does that lack punch and clarity? Red Fiona (talk) 13:38, 27 December 2015 (UTC)

Corrections acceptable. Text at 1587 char (Note: the typo was repeated in the alt hook. I stated the suggestion as an alt and corrected the age to 15 as nominator stated 12 was a typo and the article and sources confirm 15.) I think multiple medal winning is fine, as it doesn't lead one to assume gold and if it is interpreted as multiple Commonwealth Games, you have verified that as well. GTG. Congrats on your first DYK!
