Length and date ok. But I can't find a referenced sentence linked to the hook? --Soman (talk) 03:31, 5 November 2013 (UTC)

There are two sentences that may support the hook: "The Calcutta Turf Club came to have the same authority as the Jockey Club in England, the arbiter on matters concerning the rules of racing... By 1899 the Calcutta Turf Club was the authority for rules at all of the 52 courses in the subcontinent and Burma apart from Bombay, Pune, Karachi and Kolhapur." But I suppose that shows authority rather than dominance of racing. How about ALT1 or ALT2 below? Aymatth2 (talk) 13:45, 5 November 2013 (UTC)

ALT2 ... that the Derby Sweepstake pool of the Royal Calcutta Turf Club (old stands pictured) reached almost £1,000,000 sterling in 1929?
