Special Area Games Scheme
... that sports promotional scheme Special Area Games of India tries to find and train genetically gifted people?Source: "Livemint"
Moved to mainspace by Deepak G Goswami (talk). Self-nominated at 17:18, 28 August 2019 (UTC).
- Before this can be promoted, this probably needs to be copyedited to fix the grammar and other wordings. I've made a request at WP:GOCE/R for the article. @Deepak G Goswami: In addition, perhaps a catchier hook may need to be proposed as the current one is kind of pedestrian. Perhaps a hook could be proposed based on the fact that one of the related tournaments (the Khasi Cup) has a goat as its top prize? Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 00:18, 18 September 2019 (UTC)
- @Narutolovehinata5: Thank you for your review and observations. Hopefully somebody would pick up the article for copyediting soon if you feel that it is required. About the "catchier" hook, I'd suggest one soon (in the next 3-4 days) as this month I am travelling a lot from difficult and secluded mountainous terrains of the Himalayas; finding network connectivity here is a luxury.--Deepak G Goswami (talk) 14:03, 23 September 2019 (UTC)
- Since I really like the goat one, if it's okay with you, I'm going to go ahead and suggest a hook based on that:
ALT1 ... that the Khasi Tournaments, a series of local competitions covered by India's Special Area Games Scheme, features a goat as its top prize?
- My question though is the mention of 1988: does that mean the Khasi Cup is no longer active? Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 02:21, 24 September 2019 (UTC)
- Narutolovehinata5, as far as I know a reviewer can't technically suggest a hook. However, I really appreciate your help. I'd rephrase the hook as the Scheme doesn't "cover" the tournament. It used to scout the tournament for selecting players for hockey. Whether they still do it or not is not a public knowledge but the tournament is still very much active. That's why I used a reference totally unrelated to SAG Scheme but talks about Khasi Cup.--Deepak G Goswami (talk) 03:42, 24 September 2019 (UTC)
- ALT2:
... that a tournament in which a goat is awarded as the top prize was used to be scouted by the selectors of Special Area Games Scheme for selecting hockey players?
- Actually, reviews can suggest hook and can still check the DYK requirements; however, when that happens, a new editor would then be requested to approve the newly-suggested hooks. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 04:08, 24 September 2019 (UTC)
- yeah, precisely, and to avoid that I thought it'd be better if you don't suggest a hook.--Deepak G Goswami (talk) 11:00, 24 September 2019 (UTC)
- @Narutolovehinata5: the article has been copy-edited and the hook has been modified as you suggested. Can you finish the review?--Deepak G Goswami (talk) 12:37, 26 September 2019 (UTC)
- I'm almost ready to give this another look, but there are still a few spots that appear to have been missed, such as "₹" lacking a link to Indian rupee and crore being unlinked in their first mention, as well as spots such as "wushu rest 22". As for both the original hook and the source for the goat-as-prize fact, I was able to verify the information for their respective sources. If I'm not busy I can finish the review (but not the tick) as soon as the earlier issues have been addressed. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 03:44, 27 September 2019 (UTC)
- @Narutolovehinata5:, I have linked the rupee and crore. Not sure what do you want me to do with "wushu". Please elaborate a little more.--Deepak G Goswami (talk) 04:29, 27 September 2019 (UTC)
- It should be "the remaining 22 sports". Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 04:50, 27 September 2019 (UTC)
- Very well, amended as asked. Thanks mate!--Deepak G Goswami (talk) 07:10, 27 September 2019 (UTC)
- Almost there, just needs a comma before "the remaining...". Otherwise, article requirements are met (newness, length, close paraphrasing, etc.). The hook facts for ALT2 are cited inline and have been verified. As this appears to be your first DYK nomination, no QPQ is required. As I suggested a new hook, I cannot give this the final tick; I have however struck ALT0 and ALT1 per the discussion here. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 21:18, 27 September 2019 (UTC)
- Done with everything now. Waiting for the final tick.--Deepak G Goswami (talk) 03:55, 28 September 2019 (UTC)
- Thank you. A new reviewer is requested to check ALT2. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 13:57, 28 September 2019 (UTC)

- Deepak G Goswami and Narutolovehinata5, I'm not sure if I'll review this, but I thought I would just clarify the ALT2 hook, as I find it difficult to understand. What does "a tournament ... was used to be scouted by the selectors" mean? Do you mean "a tournament ... was used by the selectors to scout for players"? Or "used to be used by selectors"? RebeccaGreen (talk) 15:14, 30 September 2019 (UTC)
- @RebeccaGreen: let me try to explain it. It is known (through solid sources) that the selectors of the scheme used to use the Khasi Tournament to scout hockey players. However, after the resumption of the scheme in 2014 (it was abruptly suspended in 1993) there is no verifiable knowledge of continuation of that practice. I hope it is clear now and would you like to make it more lucid?--Deepak G Goswami (talk) 20:36, 30 September 2019 (UTC)
- Hi Deepak G Goswami, yes, that's clear. In ALT2, I'd suggest leaving out "to be scouted" and replacing "for selecting" with "to scout for". Would you like to make the changes? RebeccaGreen (talk) 03:07, 1 October 2019 (UTC)
- ALT2a: ... that a tournament in which a goat is awarded as the top prize was used by the selectors of Special Area Games Scheme to scout for field hockey players?
- Pinging RebeccaGreen now that I've posted an ALT2a that specifies that this is field hockey, since "hockey" means field hockey in some places and ice hockey in others (including the US and Canada), and also reflects her suggestion to displace the scouting to later in the hook. BlueMoonset (talk) 22:18, 2 October 2019 (UTC)
- Couldn't reply earlier but in the meanwhile BlueMoonset has refined it to what you proposed RebeccaGreen. Please take a look. And, who would pass it BTW?--Deepak G Goswami (talk) 04:42, 3 October 2019 (UTC)

- Approving ALT2a, striking ALT2 which did not make sense to me. As noted by User:Narutolovehinata5, this article is long enough, new enough, and has no copyvio issues. The nominator does not need to do a QPQ, as this is their 3rd DYK. The hook is interesting and the hook facts are cited to sources which contain the relevant information. Deepak G Goswami, as BlueMoonset wrote ALT2a, it should be fine for me to approve it. (Thanks, BlueMoonset, for thinking about clarifying which kind of hockey - I'm in a country where 'hockey' by itself is field hockey, and the other is always 'ice hockey', so it didn't occur to me!)
