William Sterndale Bennett

[edit]

Improved to Good Article status by Smerus (talk). Self-nominated at 16:33, 24 January 2016 (UTC).

  • Excellent candidate. The nominator has turned this into a fine article, highly suitable for a front page mention, and the suggested hook is splendid. Tim riley talk 19:56, 24 January 2016 (UTC)

GA criteria more than met, hook fine, sourcing fine, nominated for DYK within time paremeters, Tim, you should have done a more thorough review, an! (grin) Article is neutral, sourced, hook sourced and otherwise good to go. and qpq done and no copyvio per earwig, and all other criteria met. Montanabw(talk) 05:27, 21 February 2016 (UTC)

  • Hi, I came by to promote this, and wonder if there's a reason you're not calling him "Sir William Sterndale Bennett", as in the article? Yoninah (talk) 23:01, 21 February 2016 (UTC)
  • @Yoninah:Two reasons: 1) He wasn't a 'Sir' when he introduced cricket to Germany (in fact, not until very much later). 2) As mentioned in note i to the article, he called himself 'Sterndale' as a given name, rather than William. Best - and thanks - Smerus (talk) 07:33 22 February 2016
  • OK, thanks. Restoring tick per Montanabw's review. Yoninah (talk) 10:54, 22 February 2016 (UTC)
