[edit]- ...
that because Wolfgang Franke was posted in Beijing, he avoided being drafted into the German army during World War II, in which many of his friends were killed?Source: Liew 2008, p. 2- ALT1:... that German sinologist Wolfgang Franke was so at home in Beijing that he felt he had lived there in his previous life? - @Dr.K.: Please see page 2 of Liew 2008: "Wolfgang Franke arrived in Beijing on May 31, 1937 to work in the German Institute." -Zanhe (talk) 16:45, 4 December 2017 (UTC)
- @Zanhe: I saw that. But that doesn't mean he was "posted" there by the state. The status of the German Institute is also unclear; was it a state agency or a private company? It is also unclear why the state would not have drafted him, and why this position prevented him from being drafted into the army. Dr. K. 17:39, 4 December 2017 (UTC)
