The Blacklist: Redemption is an upcoming American crime thriller television series that is expected to premiere on NBC during the 2016–17 U.S. television season. The series is a spin-off from the NBC series The Blacklist. It stars Famke Janssen as Susan Scott "Scottie" Hargrave, president of Halcyon Aegis, a private military company with teams of corporate operatives, and Ryan Eggold as Tom Keen, a character from the original series. After airing a backdoor pilot in the form of an episode of The Blacklist, the new series was ordered by NBC on May 14, 2016.
Cast
- Famke Janssen as Susan Scott "Scottie" Hargrave, head of Halcyon Aegis' Grey Matters branch, a covert mercenary organization.[1][2]
- Ryan Eggold as Thomas "Tom" Keen, Scottie's son, and a skilled operative.[1]
- Tawny Cypress as Nez Rowan, a mercenary.[3]
- Edi Gathegi as Matias Solomon, a mercenary.[1]
- Adrian Martinez as Dumont, a brilliant computer hacker.[2]
Production
In March 2016, NBC began developing a spin-off series created by The Blacklist creator Jon Bokenkamp and showrunner John Eisendrath, who would both executive produce with John Davis and John Fox, the rest of their team from the original series. The project, centered on Eggold's Tom Keen, was contingent on the casting of the role of Scottie Hargrave, who was conceived to have a similar dynamic with Tom to what Raymond "Red" Reddington (James Spader) has to Liz Keen (Megan Boone) on The Blacklist. With Janssen cast, the May 2016 episode "Alexander Kirk" of The Blacklist was positioned as a backdoor pilot for the potential series.[1]
NBC also announced that Gathegi would be reprising his role as Matias Solomon for the pilot and as a series regular in the spin-off,[1] as would Cypress as mercenary Nez Rowan.[3] Martinez, who appeared as computer hacker Dumont in the pilot, was added as a series regular to the spin-off in July 2016.[2]
The new series, named The Blacklist: Redemption, was ordered on May 14, 2016.[4] In October 2016, David Amann was named the series' showrunner and executive producer.[5][6]
