According to Fonda's memoirs, The Ox-Bow Incident was filmed before but released after Immortal Sergeant, which was his final film performance before going off to war. In fact, he was quite upset that his enlistment date kept getting pushed back due to the strong influence of 20th Century Fox's Darryl F.
