My Project[edit]
I will be adding an entry titled Doppler spectroscopy. I will be focusing on the astronomical procedure of searching for distant planets. Mostly all of the known worlds were discovered using doppler spectroscopy. This method is very important in the search for new planets and I believe it deserves its own entry into Wikipedia. The astrophysics behind doppler spectroscopy are too complex for me, but I think I will be able to provide plenty of information in a simple yet informative manner.

- Thoughts from Josh. Jeepers! This sounds like a good project, but you're about twelve feet over my head. I'm looking forward to learning something new. The one potential problem is that I don't know enough about your subject to judge whether it deserves its own 1500+ word article in Wikipedia. Does Doppler spectroscopy differ enough from the other types listed on the main Spectroscopy entry to deserve its own page? It's a little suspicious to me that there is not even a stub on Doppler when there are full articles already on the other types. Are you sure it's not just another name for one of these other types? That's my only concern. If you know enough about the science to ensure that you're not duplicating work that already exists under a separate article, and if you are able to provide general information without being an expert in astrophysics, then I think it sounds like a great topic. Have you started looking for research material yet? - Wow, haha, this stuff is almost over my head... I'm not sure if I'm going to be much of a help for finding other information about your topic or suggesting any changes about either! Otherwise, I think that the article is very, very scientific and looks professional. If you could elaborate more on the history section, I think some things will begin to click more for me if know a lot of background about the topic. Oh, I wrote a little bit about this earlier in your article's talk page, but you should add some stuff to your See Also section. Just something that we're supposed to have. Otherwise, I'm just going to be mainly assisting with the footnoting and referencing formats (which you seem to have a good handle on, already). Hey Dan, i went over your article and i changed a couple of grammar errors, but overall you are on a good start. I like the graphs and math equations you used, i think it goes well with your topic. I never heard about this topic but from reading it sounds interesting and you organized the information well. I think if you can find a little more information, that would be great for your article. ...So I'm not sure what y'all have going on with workshop. Am I supposed to comment here? Or over at the article talk page? You seem to be doing a bit of both. I'll respond here. This is an excellent article that makes a significant contribution to Wikipedia by adding new information in an emerging area of science. You do outstanding work in making the subject approachable for the general reader. The article is enhanced by the graph you uploaded and the equations, and it appears authoritatively sourced. I was impressed that you went back to the primary source to cite Struve's 1952 proposal, and actually I thought maybe you could do more with it in your article. I think one area for expansion is in the opening history section. I'd love to see an outline of the intellectual history of Doppler spectroscopy, how Struve came upon the idea, what it was used for between 1952 and the mid 1990s, and what were the technological advances that allowed it to be applied to discovering exoplanets in recent years. You could also include more information about those observatories and any other observatories where Doppler spectroscopy equipment is presently housed. I think you also have some questions to solve about how to incorporate this article within the larger Wikipedia body of knowledge. How do you plan to link it from extrasolar planets? Should you incorporate some of this material under the radial velocity section there? Should you incorporate some of that material here? How does this piece fit together with that article? How does it fit together with Spectroscopy? How does it fit with other articles? You could also benefit from adding wikilinks. How about a link to Otto Struve, for example? Homework[edit]

- Good work. Couple of technical things. First, add a new line for each homework in this section, rather than deleting the old one and writing over it. Second, in the future, please remember to log in when you do your homework assignments. I'm assuming this is you, but I can't tell for sure. When you aren't logged in, your ip address (a string of numbers) shows up in place of your user id. Also, remember to add a comment to the edit summary box to make it easier for other users to follow your changes. You may want to add the film page to your watchlist so you can see what becomes of the article. I see you got reverted right away on account of "extraneous details." It's hard to edit an article like Jaws that so many people have edited and have your revision accepted by the community. Hey Dan this is Andy from your group. I was just wondering how you got the "Contents" box to show up on your draft page. It's the box that is at the very top and it says "Contents" [hide] and underneath it has numbered headings that you have in the whole article. Just wondering if you did anything special to get that. I'm thinking that perhaps you have a lot of headings so Wikipedia creates a convenient box for easier navigation. Just wondering. 1013-andy 04:28, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
