Sonja Katharina Goernitz (Görnitz, Gornitz, pseudonyms: Sonja K. Koskinen) is a German author of non-fiction books. Most of her works are transcripts of her diaries but she has also written a documentary about alcoholism (Drinks, Dicks & Diaries). Her books are published globally by BookSurge and BOD. Goernitz wrote articles, which were published in German and Australian media, e.g. stern, Marie Claire and newswrite. Since 2005, she is working as a researcher, editor and translator for the Australian bestselling author Peter FitzSimons (Tobruk, The Ballad of Les Darcy, biography about Charles Kingsford Smith). Goernitz lives in Sydney, Australia.
Biography
[edit]Goernitz was born in Hamburg, Germany and grew up in Poppenbüttel. She attended the University of Applied Sciences in Hamburg from 1998-2001 and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Information Management. After working in media in Hamburg, Berlin and Munich, she left Germany for New York spent some time there working for Bertelsmann Music Group (Publicity). She returned to Germany and worked casually for Gruner + Jahr in Hamburg (at first as a post clerk, later at stern). She also worked for Axel Springer (Bild), AlsterRadio and Norddeutscher Rundfunk (Tagesschau) on a contract basis. From 1998, she spent more time in Australia. In 2002, Goernitz completed a Master of Arts in International Communication at Macquarie University in Sydney, including an internship at the ABC’s investigative journalism program Four Corners. She was supported with scholarships, mainly by Friedrich-Ebert-Foundation. Goernitz produced a monthly Writers magazine in 2004/2005. She met Peter FitzSimons (Tobruk, The Ballad of Les Darcy, biography about Charles Kingsford Smith) at the Sydney Writers’ Festival in 2005. Since 2005, Goernitz is working for FitzSimons as a researcher, editor and translator.
