The Isle of Harris distillery is a distillery that produces gin and single malt Scotch whisky on Harris, an island of the Outer Hebrides. The distillery is situated on the eastern side of Harris, in the town of Tarbert.
History
[edit]The distillery began production in September 2015 and is the first to be built in the island of Harris.
The company was founded on 4th December 2007 by Anderson Bakewell. Building work on the distillery site in Tarbert began on 2nd March 2014. The building officially opened on Thursday 24th September 2015 and opened to the public on 1st October 2015. The first spirit was distilled on 18th September 2015 to make 1,004 bottles of the Isle Of Harris gin.
The Isle Of Harris distillery also makes spirit for single malt Scotch whisky and intends to release their own whisky called 'The Hearach' from 2018 onwards. The whisky will primarily age in bourbon casks.
Bottlings
[edit]The Isle Of Harris Distillery has released two batches of their gin so far,
- Batch No.1 45°ABV, released in September 2015 limited to 1,004 bottles.
- Batch No.2 45°ABV, released in October 2015
