Dave Sterrett is the author and coauthor of six books. He is an Assistant Philosophy Professor at Liberty University, a part time missionary, frequent radio guest, and speaker for a movement called I Am Second. Sterrett graduated from Southern Evangelical Seminary and is pursuing a second Master's degree in Philosophy at the University of Dallas.

Sterrett was born in Staunton, Virginia in 1980 with the given name of David Spencer. He was the younger of two children born to Clay and Teresa Sterrett.[1] At the age of eighteen, he attended Oak Hill Academy in Mouth-of-Wilson, VA. Sterrett pursued his dream and honed his basketball skills under the coaching of Steve Smith, four-time USA Today High School Coach of the Year. During his senior year, Oak Hill was declared national champions by ESPN and USA Today. According to Sterrett, it was during this year when he began to share the gospel as doors began to open for him to speak in small churchs, as well as his peers asking questions regarding Christianity. His new-found passion promted him to further his education at Liberty University, where he was also a member of the men's varsity basketball team.

Sterrett was awarded a Bachelor's of Science degree in Religion and Biblical Studies 2003. He then studied at Southern Evangelical Seminary in Matthews, North Carolina. He was awarded the Master's of Apologetics (Theology and Philosophy), while graduating Cum laude honors in 2006.

Sterrett is currently attending the University of Dallas in Dallas, Texas, where he is pursuing his Master's of Philosophy. Sterrett has been covered in major media outlets, including CBN, Christianity Today, CNN, ESPN, Jamie Foxx XM Radio and USAToday. Sterrett's first book, Why Trust Jesus? (Moody Publishers), was published in 2010. He resides in Dallas, Texas.

Career and ministry[edit]

While attending Liberty University, Sterrett spent two summers ministering to college students at Community Fellowship Church in Staunton, VA. During the fall of 2001, Sterrett served as a volunteer intern at Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchburg, VA. He delivered messages for their prison ministry and youth outreach. Sterrett was invited to executive staff meetings led by Jerry and Jonathan Falwell. Along with frequently speaking at other churches, Sterrett assisted evangelist Steve Wingfield in a community outreach in Ohio. He also traveled to Ivory Coast, Africa, with a team of volunteers to provide water purification for children.

After earning his Bachelor's of Science in Religion and Biblical Studies from Liberty University, Sterrett served as the personal assistant to Josh McDowell, Christian apologist, evangelist, speaker, and author or co-author of some 77 books. For seven months, Sterrett was responsible for the logitics behind McDowell's speaking engagements around the United States, Russia and Poland. Sterrett coordinated book distribution sales as McDowell preached in a multitude of events across Russia and Poland. Sterrett continues to work on special projects with McDowell, completing "O" God, A Dialogue on Truth and Oprah's Spirituality (WND Books, 2009) and The Coffee House Chronicles (Moody Publishers, 2011) with titles, Is the Bible True...Really?, Who is Jesus...Really?, Did the Resurrection Happen...Really? (Moody Publishers, 2011).

While studying at Southern Evangelical Seminary, Sterrett developed a comprehensive student ministry for high school and middle school students at West Cabarrus Church in Concord, North Carolina. In addition to overseeing the church recreation for all age groups, Sterrett regularily taught messages focused towards the teenage demographic. During Seminary, Sterrett was elected the Southern Evangelical Seminary student body president.

Upon completion of his Master's in Apologetics (Theology and Philosophy), Sterrett served as Interim Senior Pastor at Immanuael Baptist in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Sterrett was the lead minister and preacher on Sunday mornings, as well as provided leadership consulting to the administrative team and deacons. Sterrett furthered his position by serving the community through hospital visitations, community outreaches, funerals and baptisms.

In 2006, Sterrett accepted the position to teach at Prestonwood Christian Academy in Plano, Texas. For two years, Sterrett taught over one hundred twelfth grade students Introduction to Philosophy and Introduction to Ethics. Under the tutilage of Sterrett, his students graduated and have furthered their education among such universities as: Yale, Princeton, U.S. Naval Academy, Rice, Southern Methodist University, University of Texas, and University of Southern California. Sterrett was the Associate Coach of the 2007 District Champion Varsity Boy's Basketball team.

As Sterrett continued to gain experience in public speaking, he joined Probe Ministeries in Richardson, Texas from 2008-2009. The mission of Probe Ministries is to provide opportunities to integrate faith and learning through Biblically based scholarship, while training and equipping people to engage the world for Christ. The radio station affiliated with Probe Ministries is featured on over 600 stations, reaching over one million people every day. Sterret also began to work with Kirby Anderson, Point of View Radio Talk Show.

Sterrett is currently working as an Associate Professor with Liberty University, teaching Introduction to New Testament and Philosophy 104, Contemporary Worldviews. He has taught over twenty university course sections since 2009. As a member of the I Am Second movement, Sterrett travels to university campuses and churches across the nation in order to inspire people of all kinds to live for God and for others. He is currently co-authoring the I Am Second manuscript book, expected release of January 3, 2012. In Spring 2011, Sterrett partnered with Bradie James to launch the I Am Second movement at Louisianna State University.

In August of 2011, Sterrett began a partnership with the Reasonable Faith Academic lectures at the University of Texas at Dallas. The intention of the Reasonable Forums is to drawl skeptics, athies ts and those practicing other religions together in a dailogue setting. Sterrett will present philosophical dialogues on the historical Christ, miracles and worldviews while eventually presenting a clear presentation of the gospel of Christ to the diverse groupd of both national and international students.

In December 2011, Sterrett will be joining his father in Uganda, to train three hundred key youth pastors in spiritual disciplines and sound doctrine. The systematic training will be the first of its kind for the pastors in Uganda. Sterrett is currently creating the curriculum for those who shall be in attendence.
