Responding to rapid growth in Australian food and wine industries, the Good Food & Wine Show is Australia's largest consumer exhibition that showcases new food ideas, cuisine matches and exciting celebrity chefs. Since the inaugural show in 2001, the Australian wine industry has increased exports by over 100%[1] with retail sales in food and liquor representing 46% of total retail turnover within Australia.[2]

The event is staged annually in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth and Brisbane and so far has attracted just under 100,000 food and wine lovers for 2008.[3][4]

History

[edit]

The inaugural Good Food Show was staged in Melbourne in 2001. The first event featured some 130 exhibitors and was headlined by celebrity chef Jamie Oliver. Over 38,000 visitors attended the Show over the course of 3 days.

2002 saw the launch of the event in Sydney at Sydney Olympic Park. Due to public popularity and demand, the event was subsequently moved to the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre in Darling Harbour.

In 2005 the event was staged in Brisbane for the first time and in 2008 the inaugural Good Food & Wine Show Perth was held at the Perth Convention Exhibition Centre.

The Good Food & Wine Show has enjoyed rapid growth since its launch and is now among the largest consumer exhibitions in Australia.

Chefs that have appeared at the event include Gordon Ramsay, Ainsley Harriott, Ian Parmenter, Elizabeth Chong, Gabriel Gaté, Jill Dupliex, Rick Stein, Kylie Kwong, Bill Granger, Luke Mangan, Matt Moran, Ben O’Donoghue, Tyler Florence, Pete Evans, Tobie Puttock, Donna Hay and Gino D’Acampo.

The 2008 Sydney Show set a new record attendance for the event attracting 53,135 visitors over the course of 3 days.[3]
