In January 2020, Jackée Harry posted on her social media about singer Bonnie Raitt and Suzanne Rogers' Maggie Horton might be the same. Head writer Ron Carlivati responded, causing a brief conversation between Carlivati and Harry about a potential appearance for the latter. Twelve months later, during an appearance on Today, Harry announced she had joined the cast of Days of Our Lives, in what she described as a "brand-new storyline" for African Americans.
