Laiyangosaurus ("Laiyang lizard") is a genus of saurolophine hadrosaurid from the Late Cretaceous of China. It is known from one species, L.youngi, found in the Laiyang Basin within the province of Shandong. Its specific name is in reference to Yang Zhongjian, who did a great amount of paleontological work in the area. -figure out relation between Tanius Laiyangensis and Laiyangosaurus, if there is any. T.laiyangensis is determined to be kritosaurine, while L. youngi is determined as sauroliphine. Probably just similarity in name because of source location. -figure out temporal range

Description

described based on several cranial elements

Classification

[edit]

Laiyangosaurus is a member of the saurolophine tribe Edmontosaurini. A number of specimens referred to Laiyangosaurus (IVPP V23405.1, V23403.1, V23402.1, V23404, V23402.7) apparently belong to kritosaurin and lambeosaurine hadrosaurids.[1]

Habitat

[edit]

The Wangshi Series of Shandong Province has yielded a considerable amount of fossil material, including the remains of insects, plants and other vertebrates, including dinosaurs and dinosaur eggs.[2] <- ref needs resourcing, dead link (pdf not found) https://www.scielo.br/j/aabc/a/5znYcbqbQ389KjkFdZ9wsJR/abstract/?lang=en seems to work with a downloadable pdf
