Happy New Year!!!

Your first message in 2007 (wow, the wikilink already works). How's the Sydney fireworks? — Indon (reply) — 07:02, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

Re Portal & POTW, what do you mean? — Indon (reply) — 07:47, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
One resolution for 2007, could you please give a response of my comments here: Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Indonesia#Re-activating_the_project? Thanks. — Indon (reply) — 13:03, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

I'm really bad at grammar, ain't I? Thanks. — Indon (reply) — 11:18, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

From Adam Keller

I think your judgement is reasonable. As I wrote on the discussion page of the article Talk:Prabowo, I did locate a source for one of the previusly unreferenced statements in the Jakarta Riots of May 1998 article and put it in the Prabowo article, but it would be an immense work to do this for all the other places which you marked. Can you recommend a good place to look for information on recent Indonesian history, beyond just searching in Google and hoping something useful will come up?Adam keller 14:03, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

Jav Lang

If you'd checked with me before tagging I could have populated the refs section in half an hour :} I mean I did the old jav lang refs a couple of days ago - pity I cann0t speak it as well as i wanted to! SatuSuro 15:40, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

Thems the breaks - I had a bit of an embarrasing talk with one of the indonesian sysops who has a bot - you should trawl my talk archive if youre interested - it think it was the last or second last -but my losing the language showed terrible!SatuSuro 15:46, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
As for refs - I could spend this whole year just populating WPI stubs with refs ! heheh maybe I will! SatuSuro 15:48, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
Gawd I get it wrong every time - refs for Jav Language - will have to do tommorrow night - children have swimming lessons early tommorrow morning :} SatuSuro 15:52, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
We have an article in the WA project that none of us over here has touched yet - its classic - Freshwater Bay, Western Australia I hope to do a screenshot before it gets mutliated I think the lasut article is the equivalent on the WPI project at the moment! SatuSuro 16:07, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
Gawd - thats a bit over the top - I bet someone jumps your disambig embellishment - the programming geeks will be out to get you !  :) SatuSuro 11:37, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
Saya kurang setuju ber- apaapa dengan banyak orang dari disana... Could you please look at my creation of Gunung Kidul and tidy it up - I'm off to the movies again! Ta,  ;) SatuSuro 11:47, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
Actually thats being very cheeky - I have about 20 refs for it (more than any other damned javanese regency article so far) which I'll upload in a few days or so (I located one of my valuable boxes a few days ago :) ) SatuSuro 11:50, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
its more than once Ive been trying to relate a newbie and you jump em! Good ed and bad ed? SatuSuro 10:45, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
The nias touristy stuff -in the first day - I was going to get to that after I had done the welcome (I've found a better welcome - its the one that longhair uses - better than my usual) Dont worry I was trying to see how you might jump - seeing I was so short of humour or of uptake - recently ! :) It is no problem - there more interesting issue to battle - IO cannot believe the b-s about the plane that went down on the way to sulawesi for instance - close on two days and 500 people lost to bad weather in the java sea!SatuSuro 11:06, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

Good news! The article is now featured. Next one: Borobudur. :-) — Indon (reply) — 08:18, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

Merbabu, I've one question about your picture Image:RIAU_WEB.jpg. Is it Orang Laut village? I have put the picture in that article, but I don't know if it is really perkampungan orang laut. — Indon (reply) — 14:35, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

Sekali lagi

I put a welcome in - check watch and you have reverted an edit. Maybe starsky and hutch, or pete cook and dud moore? SatuSuro 13:59, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

RG

Rumah Gadang back up to rank 1 on G, at least for now. (Caniago 09:52, 7 January 2007 (UTC))

G = Google in bahasa SatuSuro :-) (Caniago 12:29, 7 January 2007 (UTC))
Wah ngjyuk mgyuk ngyuk (hiruk piruk bahasa yang lebih jelas) -lah! SatuSuro 12:34, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
Translation from SatuSuro:
  • - ngiyuk -non-word inspired from Horne's javanese dictionary - the ridiculous transcriptions of some javanese words that Stuart Robson complained about and eventually did his own dictionary
  • - hiruk piruk - was a newsletter from a shop in Malioboro Mall in 95/96 selling t-shirts with javanese teenagers slang and puns that even their parents didnt understand (!)

I would suggest that it (where they get in the order) is probably working off WP server update/refresh issues. Could be wrong. SatuSuro 12:53, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

Having worked for about a year I've now succeeded in getting most of the articles I care about to rank 1 on G. Having watched G during this time, and also doing research in this area, I've got a feeling for the factors involved. I think you'll get a boost for any articles you get to GA standard or higher due to greater exposure. Toraja is current alternating between rank 1 and 2, up for about 6 a few months ago. Your being piqued about the position of IArch - -http://www.orientalarchitecture.com/yogyakarta/borobudurindex.htm - is intriguing - it claims no commerical basis? SatuSuro 13:07, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

What I am proposing is that only assessed items should get linked to the portal - I am against unassessed low level stubs of about thirty words getting portal links - I suppose this should be on Indons talk page :) SatuSuro 13:22, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

Regional architecture template

Hello, there was a discussion at Template_talk:Regional-arch - most of the entries to regional architecture are replicated in the Architecture of (continent) template or Template:Architecture of the world - also, templates that span 100% of the page width are more easily incorporated into a variety of page layouts than the vertical aligned style templates - think about how the template might grow - if we have an entry for all of the regions of all of the countries - stacked vertically - the page would be enormous. --Mcginnly | Natter 12:48, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

FA level of Indonesia

Hey, congrats, man! I just want to share something about FAC of recent country articles. Germany has a really tough reviews that the nominator almost pulled it off after he has done a lot of reviewers-requested oppositions (see its FAC). However, Turkey is far smoother on its FAC. Perhaps we can learn something from there. — Indon (reply) — 13:36, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

hmm

Actually I think its excellent that with so few contributors actually being visibly active that the Indonesia Project has the main article at that level - I honestly think that such articles are very important for a project like this -and the fact that the related or tied in articles are at the quality that they are at is really great! - If it wasnt for my current tagging obsession ( I dont have a work block but real life is looming soon ) - so the 1,500th WP ( and then the 2,000th) tagged article will no doubt be turning up sooner than later... BTW you clearly misunderstand my interests - gamelan notation really bores the hell out of me (I prefer listening to the real ones in the yogya and solo kratons) ethnomusicologists however I cannot get enough of - but thats a much more longer complicated story - my current goal is to check the index of the just published lonely planet 7th edition of Indonesia index (very approximately 2,000 separate discrete entries) and possibly checking bill daltons 4th or 5th edition Indonesia Handbook index as a crosss reference against the wp articles lists - then I think I'd feel a lot happier with myself :) Just as well I am distracted by a few other issues - otherwise this answer would go for about another ten lines. Be thankful!! SatuSuro 13:53, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

cheeky bugger you changed it - just a little too far off the mark! viz this message above will clarify the interest of the moment SatuSuro 13:57, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

Its worth having you on a watch list just to see your summary comments! good for a chuckle! SatuSuro 10:09, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

Proper nouns

I'm afraid I may have made a mistake with Bahasa Indonesia, however in most language that have lower/upper case features languages names are not capitalized unless they are titles or they start the sentence of course. You have plenty of examples: hrvatski (Croatian), svenska (Swedish), polski (Polish), español/castellano (Spanish)... and the same goes for most languages using the cyrillic alphabet. In fact, English if sort of an exception in these matter.

Sorry I made a mistake with Bahasa Indonesia tough.

U2 roles

How about:

Bono (vocals, guitar)
The Edge (guitar, keyboards, vocals)
Adam Clayton (bass guitar)
Larry Mullen Jr. (drums)

I say the name should stand out a bit more. - Dudesleeper 13:08, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, the ceremony was at the rotunda. The reception was at Bathers, natch. - Dudesleeper 13:35, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

Examples of other articles that follow your rule of thumb and/or a decent reason why the U2 article should be different, if you will. - DudesleeperTalk 04:18, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

Malays coming out my ___

Have you see this Category:European-Malays? Its getting beyond a joke. Whats the quickest way to AfD a bunch of categories? (Caniago 13:45, 18 January 2007 (UTC))

Please see the bottom of Talk:Malays (ethnic group) for some AfDs to vote on. (Caniago 07:08, 19 January 2007 (UTC))
I think we have a candidate for Wikipedia talk:Lamest edit wars SatuSuro
Lame as in one side says: "I've made up the name '-------' - does that fit"? lol I love "I think we should ask Malays if Indonesians are malays". Um, what about asking Indonesians ffs? Merbabu 02:22, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

U2 FAC

Looking at the edit history, you seem to be a lone sane voice on this. So many articles at this early stage seem to get thrown at FAC, it's often difficult to bite your tongue. + Ceoil 02:38, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

Using English

Hello - I'm contacting you because of your statement regarding using English instead of foreign terms in articles. A few are trying to "Anglicise" French terms in Wiki articles according to the correct dictionary definitions but there is some resistance (eg/: "Région => Region"; "Département => Departement"). Your input would be appreciated here page. Thankyou. --Bob 16:06, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

Taronga Zoo

You're right. Looks are deceiving :) It's not worthy of a rating higher than Start at this stage. Thanks for the correction. -- Longhair\talk 08:37, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the welcome

I am actually not completely new to Wikipedia. When I was in New York, I and my friend Michael sometimes worked together through his account, now that I am in another continent I started my own account. I sometime ago saw that the article on the Chinese Indeonsians had fairly good information but totally confused and without any chronological order, and I thought it would be good to order it. Actually to explain properly it started at napoleon dynamite (character) afd discussion - then found some poor critter who has a talk page full of unsigned PA abuse - so I did go to the page that you mantioned- and also caught up with one of my usa admin mates - and its a 31 hour block - just waiting for more after then :( SatuSuro 06:53, 27 January 2007 (UTC) p.s. I really didn't delete the content, I just hid them. You see, there was a message in the talk page that kinda implied the page was becoming cluttered so I just responded to it. -23prootie 14:08, 26 January 2007 (UTC)

That stinks - and is a dubious form of editing - it looks like a problem that needs solving before it gets to the proportions of recent edit wars... SatuSuro 14:36, 26 January 2007 (UTC)

U2 question(s)

"I can only think of 3 songs where the harmonica is used. One of those songs hasn’t been played for almost 20 years, one was recently resurrected and then put back out to pasture (Running to Stand Still) and Desire" and "both Adam and Larry play keyboards on one song on the last tour" were quotes from you on the U2 discussion page

I am highly intregued... I cannot find the third song that you referenced as having Bono play harmonice on and not having been played for over twenty years, nor can I find out which song you discuss as having both Larry and Adam play keyboard on during the last tour (presumably the Vertigo Tour)... Could you divulge some info? Jgrizzy89 04:48, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

This and that, borobudur and kopassus

Merbabu, sorry I went out and left a lot of conversation in my talk page with you and SatuSuro. I have read them all. Thank you for handling the borobudur page. I've read the review in a brief. I'll make some editing tonight (well you're already in bed by now). I'll let you know the changes. — Indon (reply) — 17:46, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

About citation requests, all of them are actually given from Soekmono (1976) UNESCO manuscript. However, it will look bad if the article uses only his manuscript. Ah well, I will put them anyway. — Indon (reply) — 19:23, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

And what is so wrong with adding the country names??? It's ok for sydney to have the country name next to it…but not for other cities, huh?

But if it so wrong, then I give up.

U2

Wow, trying to come back from the dead now :)

First of all, great job on those articles about Indonesia! (Although, I must say, it is so much easier to improve an article when there isn't a bunch of people adding nonsense all the time...)

I was going to say that I was against the text boxes idea, but I see you just added them, and it does not look too bad... maybe remove a couple so the article doesn't look too cluttered...

About the rewriting of several sections - looks great! I suppose the right way to go would be to add as much info as we can and then nominate he article again for Featured Status - so if people complain there's unnecessary text we'd just remove it - that would be much easier than having to add it all over again...

About the sound samples, I'll try to work on that this week. I suppose "The Unforgettable Fire" and "The Fly" would be the best choices - both were singles and showcase the particular "sounds" of their respective eras.

One last thing - I finally got U2 by U2! Great book, defnitely the ultimate source for U2 information... I'm afraid I won't have much time, at least for now, to search and add references to the articles, but I'll try to do that as soon as I can! --
