The Ambassador of Sweden to the Philippines (known formally as the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Sweden to the Republic of the Philippines) is the official representative of the government of Sweden to the president of the Philippines and government of the Philippines.
History
[edit]I konseljen den 17 januari 1947 beslutade K. M:ta att erkänna republiken Filippinerna som en självständig och oberoende stat.[1] Sverige och Filippinerna upprättade diplomatiska förbindelser samma år.[2] I januari 1948 förordnades Sveriges sändebud i Nanking, Torsten Hammarström, till sändebud jämväl i Manila.[3] Från 1953 var den svenska ministern i Jakarta sidoackrediterad i Manila.
Den 1 juli 1980 trädde Sveriges självständiga ambassad i Manila i funktion och ambassadrådet Bo Kälfors utsågs till Sveriges första resident ambassadör.[4]
Den 9 Augusti 1995 upprättade Sverige och Palau diplomatiska förbindelser.[5] Från samma år ackrediterades den svenska ambassadören i Manila i Palau.
Ambassaden stängdes den 30 juni 2008.[6] Ansvaret för Filippinerna överfördes därefter till den svenske ambassadören i Bangkok[7] och ansvaret för Palau överfördes till den svenske ambassadören i Tokyo.[8]
Sveriges ambassad i Manila återöppnades den 8 november 2016.[9] Sveriges nye resident ambassadör i Manila, Harald Fries, överlämnade sina kreditivbrev till president Rodrigo Duterte i december samma år.[10]
