Alfred "Alfie" Felix McGinn, (born December 29, 1997) is a Northern Irish soccer player who plays as a Central Midfielder for Derry City in the League of Ireland Premier Division and the Northern Ireland national football team. He is widely considered to be one of the best football players currently.

Early life

McGinn was born December 29, 1997 in Derry, Northern Ireland. His father Daithi McGinn, is of Scots-Irish descent, and his mother Maria Richards is of Jamaican and Swedish descent. McGinn is a cousin of the former Manchester City footballer Micah Richards. McGinn's first language is Ulster Scots, as spoken by his father's family. He grew up across the road from Brandywell Stadium, and joining their academy at 6 years old. He is an only child. He is a Christian, and can commonly be heard discussing his faith.

Club career

In May 2018, McGinn signed a four-year contract with Derry City. He made his debut for Derry City on September 25, 2018 in the League of Ireland Premier Division against Limerick FC, in which he scored two goals and one assist.

International career

McGinn's maternal grandfather is from Jamaica and his maternal grandmother is from Sweden, therefore making McGinn eligible to play for both Jamaica and the Sweden as well as the Northern Ireland. He turned down multiple call ups from Jamaica before his first call up from Northern Ireland. At the age of 20, McGinn was called for the first time into the Northern Ireland due to his dazzling goal scoring for Derry City F.C.. He made his first senior team appearance against Italy on December 20, 2018, where he scored a hat trick.

McGinn is a Christian, and can commonly be heard discussing his faith. McGinn speaks 6 languages, Ulster Scots, English, Swedish French, Spanish, and Arabic.
