The North-south regional high-speed rail is a railway construct plan in Budapest (modelled on Paris RER) to connect 3 HÉV (suburban train) line Szentendre, Ráckeve, and Csepel. The plan also called Metro 5.
History
[edit]In the '90s, growing of the suburbs is not followed by the suburban public transportation system. The growing of the population of suburbs is affected the north-Buda, and the Csepel-island region. But the HÉV lines are ended in the boundary of the downtown, so the passengers have to change for unnecessarily. So it became a good idea to connect the HÉV lines in underground.
Lord Mayor Gábor Demszky (in hungarian: Demszky Gábor) is first spoken of plans in 2002. In 2005 the council separated 100 million Forint. The council want to implemented the investment 2007 to 2010 from EU sources, but this was rejected. In 2007 Miklós Hagyó (Deputy Mayor of Budapest in 2007) is reported the council want to begin build the rail. In February 2008, the Urban and Suburban Transport Association (Városi és Elővárosi Közlekedési Egyesület, VEKE) created four track version for the metro line. They want to build the line from the Union sources 2014-2020.
The track
[edit]At this moment, more plans are available. They want to make a high-speed rail system, included the Budapest-Esztergom heavy railway line. The Csepel and Ráckeve HÉV lines will connected on the ground, nearby the Theater of Nation. In Boráros Square, the metro go underground, and in Kálvin Square cross the 3rd, and the 4th metro line. At the Astoria the line is cross the 2nd line. The rail is heading towards to Oktogon, and cross 1st line.
The line is modeled like the German S-Bahn.
