Stations along lines categories[edit]

Please stop re-adding these categories to station articles. It was decided within the Trains project to replace them with the "Stations on X line" categories, such as Category:Stations on the Northeast Corridor. Best, Mackensen (talk) 11:51, 5 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Shows my rust I guess, can you link me to the discussion @Mackensen:? GFOLEY FOUR!— 12:00, 5 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Here it is: Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Trains/Archive:_2016#Revisiting station categories. Mackensen (talk) 12:04, 5 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, okay. I did notice browsing through categories today that both Category:Former Pennsylvania Railroad stations and Category:Stations along Pennsylvania Railroad lines exist. I guess these should be pushed towards the former category? I do agree with your point though; it never made sense to to me to have a new commuter rail system open a station then put a railroad that owned the line decades ago in a category on the article.
Yes, if the station existed under Pennsylvania Railroad ownership. I've been slowly working my way through the categories as time permitted. Mackensen (talk) 17:20, 5 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Old Amtrak style[edit]

I see you've removed the Amtrak styling from a number of long-closed stations recently. I do agree that's the right move, but it's unfortunate that it takes away all styling from the infobox. Since there was only really one style of Amtrak signage before the blue-and-gray (the blue and pointless arrow seen here), perhaps we could make a separate style for those older stations? That'd allow for nicely styled infoboxes and historically appropriate title styles. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 15:51, 9 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Pi.1415926535: Definitely, I agree. I vaguely remember how to make those styles, any idea on what that font is? GFOLEY FOUR!— 04:57, 10 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Well, conveniently, Amtrak's official branding guide was just made available by an editor on Amtrak paint schemes. It looks like the logo was a variation of Helvetica; we can probably just use Helvetica and be close enough. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 15:21, 10 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Pi.1415926535: Well I created Template:Amtrak old style. An example of what it looks like is User:Gfoley4/sandbox2. I don't have a good eye for fonts, but I wrote it as "helvetica" in the template and used a color from your link as the background. Maybe the "other bars" should also be that lighter shade of blue? GFOLEY FOUR!— 05:47, 11 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Can we upload a version of the old logo without the text? See the Columbus, Ohio article. Cards84664 (talk) 13:36, 11 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Cards84664: Hmm, maybe. I was just looking at that actually, haha. It would be best to have a white background, with the text on top, similar to this. I do think it would be better to use File:Amtrak logo (1971).png at least for the National Limited. I'm not quite sure when the color change to the darker blue was made though. GFOLEY FOUR!— 13:43, 11 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, looks like we may want two versions of this template - the all-blue seen at Ann Arbor, and the white-on-left seen at 16th Street - both with some way to put the right logo in the right place. What you've got now is a great start! As a side note, why do we leave off the state initials in the signage text? Amtrak uses them, so it makes our infoboxes less realistic. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 15:44, 11 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I'm thinking it may be easier to just have the one style of platform signs - seems like the majority according to a google search use the "pointless arrow with lettering above" style. As for initials, I have no idea why we don't use them. Maybe there's been previous discussion at WT:TWP? GFOLEY FOUR!— 16:03, 11 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
As for S-line, I've put in a request to add an arrow logo version. Cards84664 (talk) 17:15, 11 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, one style is probably fine for now. More important is probably figuring out how to get the logo in the right place. Is there a guide to these styles anywhere?
@Secondarywaltz: I know you've removed the state abbreviations before - thoughts? Pi.1415926535 (talk) 17:55, 11 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Sorry, but I'm semi-retired from Wikipedia and out of touch with what's going on here. Secondarywaltz (talk) 21:28, 11 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Oh! The logo can be inserted using the infobox parameters "symbol_location" and "symbol". I hope you can figure that out. Secondarywaltz (talk) 21:32, 11 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
This will require a modification to {{Rail-interchange}}. Mackensen (talk) 22:23, 11 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Does {{infobox station}} even support left-side logos when using {{rail-interchange}}? If not, we'll have to figure out a workaround. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 22:31, 11 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
This type of trivial nonsense, while articles need constructive content and references, is why I quit contributing here. Joliet Transportation Center and the station it replaced are examples of what I mean. Secondarywaltz (talk) 23:16, 11 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm hoping to create this page but there is a notice saying to contact you as the page has been deleted or moved before.

I'm just checking that it is ok to proceed?

I've drafted the content here for the time being. Kind regards, Cesdeva (talk) 12:05, 22 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, it's been almost 7 years since your indef protection of Ninja Theory. Do you agree it's about time to remove it? Anarchyte (work | talk) 09:25, 23 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for August 7[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Dothan station, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Floridian (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Administrator account security (Correction to Arbcom 2019 special circular)[edit]

ArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community.

Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they are required to "have strong passwords and follow appropriate personal security practices." We have updated our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular, two-factor authentication remains an optional means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised.

We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered.

For the Arbitration Committee, -Cameron11598 21:03, 4 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

SP stations category[edit]

I see you've been adding Category:Southern Pacific Railroad stations in California to some articles. Given that the SP no longer exists to operate passenger service, I think they'd be more appropriately placed in a new Category:Former Southern Pacific Railroad stations in California, as a subcategory of Category:Former Southern Pacific Railroad stations. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 02:26, 24 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Ah whoops, didn't realize there was already a "former" category, agree. GFOLEY FOUR!— 02:31, 24 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The Dead Don't Die duplicate page removal request[edit]

I wanted to let you know about this duplicate page for this film The Dead Don't Die (2019 film) -- the film has already been released so it would seem this other page for it could now be deleted instead of having a redirect page that is no longer needed, just letting you know, thanks.

Poster deletion request[edit]

Could you please delete this duplicate poster listing? I accidentally uploaded it indicating it was for the article Prince of Broadway which is a musical. The correct article should be Prince of Broadway (film). See link below.

Thanks. Neptune's Trident (talk) 16:20, 4 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Neptune's Trident: Hi, I really don't check Wikipedia daily like I used to, I would instead leave a speedy deletion note instead of asking for help here. GFOLEY FOUR!— 00:03, 5 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Category:Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad templates requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Liz Read!
