Stations along lines categories

Please stop re-adding these categories to station articles. It was decided within the Trains project to replace them with the "Stations on X line" categories, such as Category:Stations on the Northeast Corridor. Best, Mackensen (talk) 11:51, 5 April 2018 (UTC)

Ah, okay. I did notice browsing through categories today that both Category:Former Pennsylvania Railroad stations and Category:Stations along Pennsylvania Railroad lines exist. I guess these should be pushed towards the former category? I do agree with your point though; it never made sense to to me to have a new commuter rail system open a station then put a railroad that owned the line decades ago in a category on the article.

Old Amtrak style

I see you've removed the Amtrak styling from a number of long-closed stations recently. I do agree that's the right move, but it's unfortunate that it takes away all styling from the infobox. Since there was only really one style of Amtrak signage before the blue-and-gray (the blue and pointless arrow seen here), perhaps we could make a separate style for those older stations? That'd allow for nicely styled infoboxes and historically appropriate title styles. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 15:51, 9 April 2018 (UTC)

Well, conveniently, Amtrak's official branding guide was just made available by an editor on Amtrak paint schemes. It looks like the logo was a variation of Helvetica; we can probably just use Helvetica and be close enough. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 15:21, 10 April 2018 (UTC)

@Pi.1415926535: Well I created Template:Amtrak old style. An example of what it looks like is User:Gfoley4/sandbox2. I don't have a good eye for fonts, but I wrote it as "helvetica" in the template and used a color from your link as the background. @Cards84664: Hmm, maybe. I was just looking at that actually, haha. It would be best to have a white background, with the text on top, similar to this. I do think it would be better to use File:Amtrak logo (1971).png at least for the National Limited. Hmm, looks like we may want two versions of this template - the all-blue seen at Ann Arbor, and the white-on-left seen at 16th Street - both with some way to put the right logo in the right place. What you've got now is a great start! As a side note, why do we leave off the state initials in the signage text? Amtrak uses them, so it makes our infoboxes less realistic. I'm thinking it may be easier to just have the one style of platform signs - seems like the majority according to a google search use the "pointless arrow with lettering above" style. The admin accounts were desysopped on an emergency basis. In the past, the Committee often resysopped admin accounts as a matter of course once the admin was back in control of their account. The committee has updated its guidelines. Admins may now be required to undergo a fresh Request for Adminship (RfA) after losing control of their account. What do I need to do? Only to follow the instructions in this message. Check that your password is unique (not reused across sites). Check that your password is strong (not simple or guessable). Administrator account security (Correction to Arbcom 2019 special circular)

ArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community.

Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they are required to "have strong passwords and follow appropriate personal security practices." We have updated our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular, two-factor authentication remains an optional means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised.

We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered.

I see you've been adding Category:Southern Pacific Railroad stations in California to some articles. Given that the SP no longer exists to operate passenger service, I think they'd be more appropriately placed in a new Category:Former Southern Pacific Railroad stations in California, as a subcategory of Category:Former Southern Pacific Railroad stations.
