RE:Parade (musical):

Please see the guidelines for musical theatre articles at WP:MT. Cast lists should only show major professional productions and must be properly sourced per WP:RS. In case you are not aware of this guideline, please see edit war guidelines at WP:EDITWAR. Thank you. Flami72 (talk) 12:23, 7 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

This is the response that I just wrote on my talk page. "Thanks for your courteous and informative response. If you decide to add this production to the article, I think it might be better as prose in the productions section rather than in a cast table, which lists major productions. I found several reviews of the Hope Mill Parade production (using Google search), so there should be no problem with referencing. (I might add that I am giving my own opinion, and do not speak for any other editors or for the musical theatre project.)" Flami72 (talk) 16:34, 7 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi 131156pjh, I have opened a talk page thread on the addition you wish to add, so before you add the same material to the article, you need to discuss it at Talk:Parade_(musical)#Hope_Mill_Theatre,_Manchester and let the discussion come to a consensus before trying to add it again. We have several guidelines, policies and procedures that have been built up over the last 18 years that may seem convoluted and arcane to the outsider, but are necessary to stop disagreements getting out of hand. I'll run through the main ones here, just so you can join the discussion without getting yourself into hot water through not knowing the steps. The first one is about WP:EDIT WARRING, which you read; the "page in a nutshell" is that "Don't use edits to fight with other editors. Disagreements should be resolved through discussion." This is how we do things on WP: by discussing on the talk page, not by edit warring, which will just keep going round in circles until someone loses their temper, starts throwing out names and gets blocked. No-one is a winner in those situations. Closely allied to the edit warring policy is WP:3RR, which means you can be blocked if you revert more than 3 times: this is something I am sure you will want to avoid

While the discussion is taking place, the WP:STATUS QUO of the section remains. That is to say, the version prior to the addition of the challenged text. You should not try to add the information again without the discussion coming to a consensus: this is the bedrock on which articles are developed on WP - through WP:CONSENSUS. I'll have an eye on the discussion, but drop me a line if you want clarification on any of the above. Cheers - SchroCat (talk) 08:37, 12 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Many thanks for you informative and comprehensive reply, I am as you may well have guessed new to 'WikiTalk' and being able to 'Edit' pages and certainly don't want to get into any EDIT WARRING! I was simply re-inserting what had been done back in May 2016 by the production team and thought it had been deleted by mistake, and was doing something wrong in the mean time when it kept disappearing. The production was indeed held at Hope Mill Theatre in Manchester and was probably its first full run of a major musical theatre event, however it has gone from strength to strength in the years after and has continued to excel given its humble beginnings, the latest being a gala evening hosted by Stephen Swartz (Wicked). I might add that all the performers then and since are professional actors and actresses, who have successful careers in musical theatre and the addition of the material was in recognition of the efforts that Hope Mill made and continues to make to bring performances to an audience that perhaps feel a little daunted at the thought of going to more main stream theatres. I will await the adjudication of the ongoing discussion and abide by its decision131156pjh (talk) 09:24, 12 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi 131156pjh, It would be best if you put forward your argument on the talk page (at the link I put in the thread above). Your word (even as a newcomer), will carry the equal weight as any of the other editors taking part. You should note that it's not a vote of the number of people saying yes or no, but arguments put forward based on the policies and procedures of WP. One point to strengthen your case would be to provide reports from the press to back up the information. Wikipedia doesn't strive to tell the truth but, as an encyclopaedia, to reflect with the reliable third-party sources say. The 'bigger' the publication, the more chance there is that the information will have of getting onto the page (if you can provides references from national or international press, that will help your case a lot). I hope this helps. Cheers - SchroCat (talk) 10:07, 12 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi SchroCat, Again many thanks for a helpful and informative reply, I will post my previous reply as you suggest but don't want this to get out of hand or blown out of all proportion. As far as reviews are concerned, there were some from national press that were very positive even one suggesting there could be run in the Donmar but that didn't materialise and I cannot find a thread to it any more.
