[edit]I'm an editor and admin here who has been trying to clean up the AfCs, and I came across your articles on NC Insurance and Bull Durham. It's great to encounter such good work here, in contrast to my usual activities of trying to rescue borderline junk on nevertheless important topics. What you've been doing is very good work, but it is a little more in the line of what one would publish under one's personal name as an historical essay, than an encyclopedia article.
Since after all this is a community written encyclopedia, I'm making the changes I think necessary. They are of two sorts: first, I'm trying to decrease the extent to which the article draws conclusions. The WP guideline here is WP:Original Research. Normally we just state the facts, and quote published interpretations from reliable sources. You do that, but you also explain the significance yourself--if yo've written the article properly, it shouldn't be necessary. The second sort of changes are rewording to increase compactness and decrease repetition, including the shortening of unnecessarily wordy phrases, and the removal of unnecessary adjectives. There's quite a lot of this, and you might want to yourself see whether you can say the same thing, but is less space. Computer screens have a limited capacity, and i practice it helps readers to write in a somewhat abbreviated manner. I have also been removing some material that does not really fit--especially the biographies of the successive executives of the insurance company. These really should be separate articles.
I've been a teacher or librarian almost all of my career, and it seems to me that there are some signs that these were originally essays for a class. One is the footnote style, which is acceptable here, but not the usual way we do it. Another is the general tone--class essays after all are expected to show some originality and to integrate the material into the general historical picture. A wider range of references would help, rather than your reliance on a few key works. These topics have surely been covered in a large number of works about the town and the industries, including some academic papers as well as books. (I very much hope that what is being reproduced here is your own work, rather than what you have found elsewhere.) If I can help you with your further work here, just ask me on my talk page. [edit]Hello, I'm Sakura Cartelet. I noticed that you recently removed content from Madison Kocian without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks.
