Google Knowledge Panel on Abdi Garad

[edit]

Hello Abdi I recognise that you feel Wikipedia has accused you (a Birmingham University PhD researcher) of being a Somali pirate because you have seen your photograph linked in a Google Knowledge Panel with content about a Somali criminal. I am sorry this has occurred, but it has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with Wikipedia, so please do not try to alter the article on Abdi Garad again. It is down to Google's own algorithms which have taken Wikipedia content, found an article with your photograph, concluded that because the names are the same that you are one and the same, and then presented it for all the world to see. I can imagine how annoyed you are. But we cannot control what Google does with our content. I have already clicked the 'feedback' link and reported the wrong image has been used, and I encourage you to do likewise. In the meantime, please don't try to alter content on Wikipedia, as this'll only lead to someone thinking you are up to no good here - and you've already had a few warnings. I appreciate you coming to the Teahouse to raise this. Please also see our responses there. Nick Moyes (talk) 01:28, 27 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

24 hours later and I note the Google Knowledge Panel has now been removed entirely by Google - so reporting seems to work! Nick Moyes (talk) 12:48, 28 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
