I would like for you to leave the changes that I have made. I think it is important that the native language and the language of the inhabitants is the language displayed on the page, as the city has no English name. 82.15.62.44 (talk) 19:37, 11 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The English name of 'Perpignan' seems to be 'Perpignan'. If you think otherwise, challenge it with evidence in the talk page. The "language of the inhabitants" (which is primarily French, btw) is largely inconsequential.--Asqueladd (talk) 22:30, 11 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The English name of 'Alicante/Alacant' seems to be 'Alicante'. If you think otherwise, challenge it with evidence in the talk page.--Asqueladd (talk) 22:31, 11 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I don´t know how to discuss on the talk page There is no such thing as an official English-language name neither for Rome, Lisbon or Alicante. There are placenames that English-language sources use with the most frequency to refer to those places, which seem to be respectively, 'Rome', 'Lisbon' and 'Alicante'. And that's the way articles should be titled, and the way placenames should be generally referred to inline. If you want to challenge English-language usage for the placenames of Perpignan or Alicante open a thread in Talk:Perpignan or in Talk:Alicante.--Asqueladd (talk) 22:38, 11 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I am willing to leave the name as Alicante/Alacant, but there is no expressly English name different to other languages for the city. 82.15.62.44 (talk) 22:46, 11 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If English-language sources used Alicante the most to refer to the place, that the "expressly English name" [sic] for Wikipedia purposes the same way that the "expressly English name" for Paris is 'Paris' (and the placename to which the IPA English pronunciation keys /ˌælɪˈkænti/, /ˌælɪˈkɑːnti/ featured in the introduction refer to, by the way) and that's the placename that should be primarily used in the article. If you want to challenge this, do it with evidence in the talk page and refrain from edit warring--Asqueladd (talk) 22:49, 11 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
