welcome

Welcome!

Welcome to Wikipedia, AMsisscorsister! My name is Ryan, aka Acetic Acid. I noticed that you were new and haven't received any messages yet. I just wanted to see how you were doing. Wikipedia can be a little intimidating at first, since it uses different formatting than other sites that use HTML and CSS. In the long run, though, you'll find that the WikiSyntax is a lot easier and faster than those other ways. Here are a few links to get you started:

There are a lot of policies and guides to read, but I highly recommend reading over those first. If you have any questions, feel free to leave me a message on my talk page. Please be sure to sign your name on Talk Pages using four tildes (~~~~) to produce your name and the current date, along with a link to your user page. This way, others know when you left a message and how to find you. It's easier than having to type out your name, right? :)

I hope you enjoy contributing to Wikipedia. We can use all the help we can get! Have a nice day. Sincerely, Ryan 07:40, August 5, 2005 (UTC)

I appreciate you coming to me, but unfortunately, I'm the least experienced with uploading. There is an article regarding it here. I'm still not sure exactly how to go about it. I'll come back in a second with reinforcements. :P Ryan 07:49, August 5, 2005 (UTC)

Consider the reinforcements here. From http://www.movieweb.com

Since the copyright status of the particular image is not indicated on the page you linked, I highly reccommend you do not upload it. All images have automatic copyright under US law, and without an explicit release of that copyright, using the image is a copyvio. There is a fairuse provision, but I believe Jimbo has ruled that fair use images are no longer to be uploaded. The safest bet is to not upload any image that is questionable. -- Essjay · Talk 08:05, August 5, 2005 (UTC)

sophie koh

[edit]

i've messaged to that guy (User:TheSeer) who nominated sophie koh for deletion. sophie koh is a notable artist, and you've done the right thing and haven't breached anything on the deletion policy. just to let you know secfan 13:11, August 6, 2005 (UTC)

images

[edit]

your doing a good job making new articles and putting appropriate images with them, but make sure you put the right "tags" for the images (if you don't know you better ask me or someone else) secfan 13:13, August 6, 2005 (UTC)

i don't understand what's wrong with my tags...like have u seen any of my images with bad tags? help me out if u have time
umm the problem is you've put NO tags... but for screenshots like the Len one put like {{film-screenshot}}, album covers: {{albumcover}} and other stuff like sophie koh photo and nakata put {{fairuse}} i guess... secfan 13:28, August 6, 2005 (UTC)
ok i've done that for the sophie koh, but now the article don't look as good..
no no no, you dont need to do it on the article, but on the photo itself (click the photo and you will see u can edit the photos description). you'll see i've already done it for all the photos youve uploaded so far secfan 13:39, August 6, 2005 (UTC)
and you dont need to put the <nowiki> stuff on it. i only did it here to show you what you had to type in. secfan 13:42, August 6, 2005 (UTC)

sign messages

[edit]

remember when typing messages on talk pages and stuff, always type ~~~~ to sign your messages, or it will be more difficult for others to communicate to you. secfan 07:01, August 9, 2005 (UTC)

When you don't log in you might want to sign your messages with something that indicates who you are, if you don't mind doing so. The message you left on my talk page was obviously from you. Brianjd | Why restrict HTML? | 07:58, 10 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Tagging images

[edit]

Hey, I noticed you uploaded a picture of Sophie Koh at Image:Sophiekoh guitar.jpg. As you will notice on the info page, use of {{Fairuse}} is being discouraged. You should use {{Promophoto}}, but only for genuine promo photos! Where did this image come from? Did you take it? If you did, then that's a whole different story (a better one, actually), but if you just grabbed it off the net at some random place, we probably can't use it. The best way to find images you can use with Promophoto is to go to their official website and look for official galleries of photos or press photos. For example, we could use this one. Does what I've said make sense? Please leave me a note on my Talk page to discuss further. cheers. pfctdayelise 10:44, 10 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

edit summary

[edit]

Hi, I clicked on a user name that was signed on my talk page and I was redirected to this page. If you aren't the user that asked me about edit summaries, I apoligize. If you were the one who asked...

The description of your edits on the history pages are called edit summaries. Below the edit box there is a single line text box that says "Edit summary:" next to it. This is the box to fill in to describe your edit and why you did it so that it will appear on the history page of the article. Dismas|(talk) 07:33, 5 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Question

[edit]

I saw that you added on The Vines' article that "Don't Listen to the Radio" peaked at #122 on Billboard Modern Rock chart, and I was wondering where I could find similar information since the chart usually only shows the top 25 positions. Please post an answer on my Talk page. I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

Image source problem with Image:Sophiekoh guitar.jpg

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Sophiekoh guitar.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 00:06, 4 September 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Jusjih 00:06, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Davidchiu01.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Davidchiu01.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:10, 3 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced BLPs

[edit]

Hello AMsisscorsister! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. if you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 699 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

  1. Marc Costanzo - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL

File source problem with File:Boyzdyedhair.jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Boyzdyedhair.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
