Welcome messages[edit]

Hello Alba (hey, cool username), welcome to Wikipedia. Although you seem already to have gotten off to a flying start (nice work on the Cambridge/Boston geography stuff), here are some useful links in case you haven't already found them -

If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! -- Finlay McWalter 00:26, 14 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Indeed, the teapot is discussed at (perhaps too much) length at Utah teapot - but if you can think of anything more that the article should contain but doesn't, please add it (as no article on Wikipedia is ever finished). -- Finlay McWalter 01:30, 14 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Welcome Alba. I came across the article you created Morden (fictional character). As it is the article does not have enough information and it will likely be deleted. If you intend to add to it, I would suggest you work on a temporary page before creating the article. You can create your own subpages like this: User:Alba/Work in progress. If you have any questions, let me know on my talk page. Dori | Talk 03:57, Dec 14, 2003 (UTC)

OK, I see that you have already added to it. Another trick is to leave a note on the article, such as [in progress] so it does not get deleted by someone. By the way, what does your username stand for (I am from Albania). regards, Dori | Talk 03:59, Dec 14, 2003 (UTC)

Yes I think it would be a good idea to link to the character from Morden as someone could get to the place article and be looking for the character. Another way is to move the place to something like Morden (place), make Morden a disambiguation page and link to both articles from there. By the way, if do a Show preview before saving (which is the recomended way), you will see how the article and links will look. have fun, Dori | Talk 04:16, Dec 14, 2003 (UTC)

Speedy[edit]

Hi, I saw that you added Southern Independence Party to candidates for speedy deletion. That article did not qualify under any of the speedy deletion rules. Please review the speedy deletion rules at Wikipedia:Speedy deletions. If you think that the article should be deleted, you should follow the procedure at Votes for Deletion. — David Remahl 21:15, 30 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Sorry about that, I thought I was putting that post Southern Independence Party up for Votes for Deletion, not speedy deletion. What's the code to put up VfD instead? Obviously not msg:delete... Alba 21:21, 30 Sep 2004 (UTC)
The template is {{vfd}}. Also, note that "msg:" is not necessary (it used to be required but isn't in the current version of the software). Note that you have to list the page manually at WP:VFD too. Just including the template is not enough. There are detailed instructions @ WP:VFD. — David Remahl 21:24, 30 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Work on PlanetMath Exchange project[edit]

Hi Alba: Thanks for contributing to the PlanetMath Exchange project.

Don't forget to include the relevant template if you copy over text or feel like an external link is warranted

  • {{planetmath|id=|title=}} for copied over text
  • {{planetmath reference|id=|title=}} for an external link

See the main page for examples and usage criteria.

And thanks again. Oh and add yourself to the participants list if you like ;-) Paul August 21:56, Feb 14, 2005 (UTC)

Deletions[edit]

Hi Alba. If you want to delete an article, put the {{del}} tag at the beginning of it, rather than removing all the content. If you remove the content, then someone could mistakenly think that you were vandalizing the page and undo your change. Also, blanking the page does not delete it. Thanks for contributing. Bart133 (t) 03:56, 15 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Anti-Semitic post[edit]

Alba, I didn't post that, I deleted it. We must have had an edit conflict, and it has caused the post to be attributed to me in the edit history. I'm going to ask a developer to try to undo that for me, because it looks terrible. It was posted by User:67.173.227.156. I've also deleted it from the Talk page as I don't feel it's a legitimate contribution. Hope that's all right with you. SlimVirgin 04:51, Feb 15, 2005 (UTC)

A little out of character? LOL I feel the need for a cold shower just to calm myself down. ;-) SlimVirgin 04:52, Feb 15, 2005 (UTC)

I removed language tags and categories from your user page[edit]

Hi Alba, I've just edited User:Alba/Aristole merge to remove language tags and categories, since I noticed that that page was showing up, for example, in the category Ancient mathematicians. Paul August 17:26, Jun 4, 2005 (UTC)

Salve!
I nominated W. Mark Felt as a WP:FAC. As you commented on the Deep Throat talk page, I'd appreciate your comments at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/W. Mark Felt/archive1. PedanticallySpeaking 15:49, Jun 17, 2005 (UTC)

Re:1632verse[edit]

Always glad to work toghether on this. Btw, will you be coming to the 163x minicon in WV this weekend? I might be there - if sb gives me a ride from Pitt to con and back :) --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 21:42, 16 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Do you still need User:Alba/Aristole merge for anything? It looks like it was already merged back into Aristotle. It's flagged for cleanup, and seems to be showing up on the radar of various "problem" lists. If it can be deleted, you can flag it {{db|Temporary page, no longer needed}} and an admin will do so. Thanks! -- Beland 05:10, 22 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • I've redirected the page in order to retain the history of edits by the other users per GFDL requirements. Merging the history into the actual article may cause some diffs to get messed up because of edits done on the main space article in the same time period as on the user subpage. If any of what I said is not clear, drop a note on my talk page and I'll explain further. - Mgm|(talk) 13:26, August 22, 2005 (UTC)
  • And I also dropped a note to Beland. - Mgm|(talk) 13:30, August 22, 2005 (UTC)
  • If you keep content you need to retain the edit history so there's a record of who wrote it. Deleting your subpage and thus the history would mean required info gets deleted. If you still don't get it, head over to the helpdesk and ask why Merge and delete aren't compatible votes on VFD. That should draw some comments from more experienced Wikipedians than me who may explain more clearly. - Mgm|(talk) 18:04, August 22, 2005 (UTC)

Please see User talk:Alba, I've redirect the page to retain the page history per GFDL requirements. The text was returned in a copy-paste move. I've decided against a history merge because it may mess up certain diffs in that time period of edits. - Mgm|(talk) 13:28, August 22, 2005 (UTC)

  • Thanks for the suggestion. I didn't know I could speedy delete temp pages. Now, might you have ideas on how I can avoid this diff maintenance issue in future? Alba 17:18, 22 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Well, you could avoid creating the page in the first place, by just making edits to the article directly, or by using "preview". But this may be inconvenient. There's nothing wrong with what you did; I guess the only thing to do is just to turn the page into a redirect when you're done with it. -- Beland 01:24, 23 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Death By Powerpoint[edit]

The concensus was very much for the merge which you did - would have been inclined to do the same myself. I'm a great believer in being bold. Dlyons493 Talk 21:45, 26 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Wikihug[edit]

I noticed your Wikistress was high so I decided to give you a Wikihug to help make things better before they got too bad. :) Hope you feel better soon. ♥♥purplefeltangel 21:47, 27 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I wanted to let you know that Golden Gate Highlands National Park article is a copyvio because the website you copied the information clearly says:

COTW[edit]

Would you be willing to support my nominee for WP:COTW. The article is Invasion which is an important term for military knowledge. The current article however isn't at the same standard as the term is in modern and historic warfare though. If you'll be willing to support, I'll be greatful. Thanks RENTASTRAWBERRY FOR LET? röck 00:39, 5 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Alba[edit]

Dude, we share the same name. Kudos Lue3378 06:33, 7 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Alba, would you perhaps contribute your opinion at Talk:Sandia National Laboratories? We've had this discussion before and I'm in opposition to the merger, but as there were only 2 comments, both in opposition to the merge with Sandia Base, I would value hearing your rationale for the merger. Thanks! --ABQCat 21:09, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have translated some parts of this article (I didn't like the German article very much, it has too much detailed local history IMHO). Would you mind to have a look? I also removed the infobox. If you come across more German articles that you need help with, a good point to ask is also the brand new Wikipedia:German Wikipedians' notice board. Page merges[edit]

Hi Alba,

When proposing a page merge, can you at least explain why you think any two particular pages should be merged. You added {{merge}} templates to carpet and Rug making the other day without any suggestion as to why you thought they should be merged. -- Solipsist 10:35, 10 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Solipsist. I was merely adding the merge notice based on old posts on Wikipedia:Proposed mergers. I figured, therefore, there was already a merge notice posted.... sorry, should have linked to it. Anyway, it may still be a good merge. Alba 12:35, 10 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ahh well, that's a good thing. It would probably be a good idea to mention that in the edit summary when adding the merge notice. Mind you, a merge suggestion that's been hanging around since Dec 2004 - wow! -- Solipsist 12:44, 10 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Alba. The merge notices you reinstated on carpet and Rug making are still sitting there and no one's come up with a reason for them to be merged. Just letting you know I'll remove the notices in the next day or so if there's still no reason given. Cheers, A bit iffy 12:03, 25 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wikiproject History of Science[edit]

Saw your edits to the History of evolutionary thought page, and thought they seemed to reflect a better-than-average understanding of debates in the history of evolution which are generally ignored by most people, so I thought I would see if you were at all interested in being a participant at WikiProject History of Science (WP:WPHOS). --Fastfission 17:37, 24 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vandal consult[edit]

Looks like a school in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. My experience with these kinds of vandals--always when it is daytime hours on a weekday in the US--is they go away within the hour, so short blocks after a blatant vandal warning often work well. Cheers! Antandrus (talk) 16:47, 2 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
