Hello, I'm Dawn Bard. I wanted to let you know that I undid one or more of your recent contributions to Alter Eco because it appeared to be promotional. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. A tag has been placed on your user page, User:AlterEco, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be blatant advertising which only promotes a company, product, group or service, and which is a violation of our policies regarding acceptable use of user pages: user pages are intended for active editors of Wikipedia to communicate with one another as part of the process of creating encyclopedic content, and should not be mistaken for free webhosting resources. Please read the guidelines on spam, the guidelines on user pages, and, especially, our FAQ for Organizations.

If you can indicate why the page is not blatant advertising, contest the deletion by clicking on the button that looks like this: Click here to contest this speedy deletion which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to your user talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also edit this page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would help make it encyclopedic. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Dawn Bard (talk) 18:20, 19 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended for publicity and/or promotional purposes. If you intend to edit constructively in other topic areas, you may be granted the right to continue under a change of username. Please read the following carefully.
Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, website or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements, and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but such groups are generally discouraged from using Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not, although if you can demonstrate a pattern of future editing in strict accordance with our neutral point of view policy, you may be granted this right. See Wikipedia's FAQ for Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, organization, or clients. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit again.

What can I do now?

If you have no interest in writing about some other topic than your organization, group, company, or product, you will probably not be allowed to edit Wikipedia again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

If you do intend to make useful contributions about some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
    • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
    • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Peridon (talk) 18:25, 19 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

This page is not unambiguously promotional, because it is purely informative indicating the values, history and growth of the organization Alter Eco. We understand now that the previous wording of our biography mistakenly used descriptive words, none of which were intended for advertising or promotional means. The block is no longer necessary, as our only goal is to create a summary page and share history of the organizations and we hope to be un-blocked in order to do so. If un-blocked, there will only be factual information and resources for readers to learn from and understand our basis and platform.

Decline reason:

your username is intrinsically promotional; to seek an unblock it is essential that you choose another usernam, having no connection with your oganisation. to do this use {{unblock-un}}. It also appears from the wording of your request that this account is operated by more than one person; this is not permitted. --Anthony Bradbury"talk" 20:05, 19 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

the administration and use of this page will only be edited by one person whose email is linked to the account. I will only make changes when updates, such as dates or titles, are necessary. Currently the page 'Alter Eco' on Wikipedia has incorrect information, portraying the organization being based in France. I would like to update it to be current, which includes a much more detailed history of the organization and it's values. This will have no connection with the organization or for any promotional reasons, updating the Alter Eco page will be purely for informative purposes.

Decline reason:

You say that what you wrote was "purely informative" but in fact it was extremely promotional in tone: "a values-based brand of specialty food products that brings sustainable, delicious, exotic, and healthy ingredients from around the world to people here in the United States and Canada for their delight and enjoyment... ALTER ECO's premium quality is the marriage between traditional farming and finely-tuned gourmet craftsmanship –an unbeatable combination... " etc. That is not an encyclopedia article, it is puffery, an advertisement, and anything like that is deleted from Wikipedia at sight. JohnCD (talk) 13:17, 20 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I understand how the previous wording was mistakenly promotional. It was copied and pasted from another document that was written for another use, with the intention of being edited, but because I accidentally saved too soon as a new user, it was quickly deleted. I have written up entirely new and substantial information that includes no puffery, advertising, or fluff. For example: ALTER ECO is a values-based alternative trading organization, founded in 1998 by Tristan Lecomte,[1] which specializes in the import and distribution of Fair Trade specialty food products that bring healthy ingredients from around the world to market. Beginning in France, Alter Eco expanded in 2005 to United States and Australian markets and later in 2010 to Canada. In 2006, the organization approached Brazilian retailers to sell Brazilian products in the country under Fair Trade terms, creating the first South-South Fair Trade experiment. I understand the reasoning for the deletion, but it truly was a mistake of saving before editing down the copy. Am I able to post changes to be approved?

Procedural decline; no response to the questions posed below, and the proposed username is already taken. Kuru (talk) 18:29, 24 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Here are a few key questions:

You are currently blocked because your username appears directly related to a company, group or product that you have been promoting, contrary to the username policy. Changing the username will not allow you to violate the 3 important principles above. (✉→BWilkins←✎) 16:05, 21 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
