Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Aranya27. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Justdial, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. BilCat (talk) 08:42, 4 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Connected contributor- Justdial

[edit]

Hi @Aranya27:,

Please place this template on your user page, that is, on User:Aranya27: {{UserboxCOI|1=Justdial}}.

Here is more information about this template in case you'd like to know more about its purpose and contents: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:UserboxCOI.

This template helps the contributor community at Wikipedia know and recognise that you are a legitimate representative of the company. I have placed a corresponding template on the Talk:Justdial, in the section entitled "Connected contributors". -- Rohini (talk) 16:24, 4 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Re V.S.S. Mani's name

[edit]

@Aranya27: I have fixed V.S.S. Mani's name in the lead paragraph of the article on Justdial based on your statement on Talk:Justdial. However, the sentence that contains his name is referenced by this article published on Forbes India: http://www.forbesindia.com/article/big-bet/just-dial-new-world-new-game-for-vss-mani/38615/1 which mentions his name as "Venkatachalam Sthanu Subramani Mani". If Forbes India can rectify this name, that would be great. If not, then one or more reliable sources where his name is spelt correctly are necessary to establish his correct name. There is a chance that the error could be reintroduced into the Justdial article in the future, based on the Forbes India article.

Do note that profiles on Facebook, LinkedIn and other social media sources generally are not considered reliable sources on Wikipedia. For more information about this, please refer to the policies on Self-published sources (online and paper) and Self-published and questionable sources as sources on themselves. -- Rohini (talk) 16:39, 4 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Rohini: I have corrected the name. There are multiple articles that state it. There is a brand new one on afaqs, which I have also updated in the reference section, https://www.afaqs.com/news/story/54623_Can-Just-Dial-get-us-to-delete-Zomato-MakeMyTrip-Practo-apps There is one more ET article that says VSS Mani: https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/company/corporate-trends/vss-mani-the-man-who-dialled-the-right-numbers/articleshow/7925169.cms It is difficult to go back and correct Forbes article since it is much old, I am sure we can acknowledge much more recent articles with the correct name.

I have made the change picking up the exact line from afaqs.

@Aranya27: Firstly, as you are someone employed by Justdial, please refrain from directly editing articles related to Justdial. You may post requests on the relevant talk pages as you have done previously. It would not have been redundant in this case because you had found a newly published reference. As you have been informed previously, when an employee directly edits the articles about employer, it is in contravention of Wikipedia's rules about conflict of interest and paid editing. Secondly, the article you posted from AFAQS.com is not considered a reliable source on Wikipedia. Do familiarise yourself with the rules for reliable sources. Thirdly, even in the hypothetical situation that the AFAQS website as a whole were considered a reliable source, the article you cited is obviously advertorial in its phrasing and tone, which would render it unreliable. Fourthly, and amusingly enough, the article in AFAQS contains 2-3 sentences plagiarised from Wikipedia, which renders it unusable. (FYI, I *wrote* the sentences that AFAQS has plagiarised from Wikipedia.), Fifthly, I have changed VSS Mani's name in the lead paragraph of the Justdial article on the basis of the number of references (reliable ones) that mention his name as VSS Mani instead of the full version. I hope that those who have direct commercial and branding interests in the way information is presented on Wikipedia would constructively engage with the volunteer community that contributes to Wikipedia and would refrain from breaking/ undermining Wikipedia's established rules. -- Rohini (talk) 04:41, 13 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Please do not use Wikipedia to promote businesses, like you did in the article Justdial. Wikipedia is not a trade directory. If you want to list a company for potential customers to find, please consider alternative outlets. Thank you. -- For making a COI-edit using a promotional/ advertorial and unreliable reference that contains plagiarised content. Please familiarise yourself with the Five Pillars of Wikipedia. -- Rohini (talk) 04:55, 13 March 2019 (UTC) Rohini (talk) 04:55, 13 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
