Thanks

[edit]

Thanks for wishing me a happy birthday. I really appreciate the sentiment :-) Regards. Will (aka Wimt) 18:47, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your userpage

[edit]

It seems that your first expandable section (userboxes) gives clipping errors on Firefox. See Wikipedia:Userboxes#Grouping_userboxes example 2 for detail. (actually the paragraph about a page below that: "A fifth alternative of grouping boxes is done by combining Examples 2 and Examples 4 together. Example 2 breaks DHTML interoperability. It works as intended on Internet Explorer; however, it does not work well with Firefox and Opera (Internet suite) when additional hide/show sections are added...") If you require help in fixing it, just ask, since I prefer not to fix these things on someone's userpage without his permission. Regards, G.A.S 20:29, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This seems more complicated than I thought, give me until tomorrow to come up with the solution, as I need to disconnect from the Internet now. I have also noticed a spelling mistake in your signature (review)... Truly yours, G.A.S 20:53, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks — I am not even done yet. The tables shows as originally in IE but are a bit larger in Firefox. (+- 10% larger) Would this be a problem? G.A.S 16:22, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. I actually already have a background on my userpage, it is just so light that even I can barely see it. As for the rest, I would prefer the challenge of doing it myself, that way my skills can improve. (As for the tables I used on your page, see the comment indicating the coded areas. It seems like almost anything can go between those sections without breaking). Sincerely, G.A.S 17:52, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Trivia

[edit]

WP:Trivia has the answer you seek. The idea is basically that this content should be integrated into other sections, expanded into sections of their own, or if it is too trivial that it should be deleted. Regards, G.A.S 20:29, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

User warnings

[edit]

I noticed you gave an anon a level 2 warning after they vandalized predation about 6 times in a row a few hours ago, after they had already received a last warning. Wouldn't it be better to request an immediate block? If you're just going to go back to level two warnings after a final warning there's no point posting them at all, you'll just encourage them to vandalize more. Your interesting signature has compelled me to experiment with mine. Just letting you know and thanking you.

I stopped by to say thanks for reverting vandalism on my user page on Friday, but couldn't help noticing that you asked to be blocked for a week. I completely understand, and have considered doing something similar myself. Good to know at least one admin is open to the idea; if I don't develop a spine soon, I may need to do it myself. Hope you're able to resist the temptation of editing anonymously. Anyway, thanks for the revert, and good luck with whatever you've got going on in real life. --barneca (talk) 13:29, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Personal

[edit]

I am actually 63 years old, and will be 64 in September. I recognise that most wikipedia editors are College students or younger, but this is not a qualifying requirement, although I have not as yet found anyone who is actually older than I am. I have been an editor for about 15 months, an admin since earlier this year, and spend an average of about three hours each day in wikipedia. Why do you ask?--Anthony.bradbury 22:35, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I am sorry if my last comment seemed to WP:BITE you. That was not my intention, and I am more than happy (within obvious limits) to answer questions. If I can help in any way within the wiki framework please do not hesitate to ask. And by the way, if you are still at school why aren't you in bed? (just kidding)--Anthony.bradbury 22:49, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Fair comment; I am in the UK and it's nearly midnight here. No, as I say, I was not even slightly offended, and as I also said, if I can give ant wiki-help please let me know.--Anthony.bradbury 22:58, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I mostly do vandalism reverting and mostly warning IPs and Users about it and something help other User. I have about 450 mainspace edits(I think). Thank you for your time sir,Arnon Chaffin (Talk) 23:28, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Adminship

[edit]

I think that my answer to your question at the moment is no. Let me say immediately that the fact that you are still at school is not relevant; a lot of our admins are still in secondart education.

The points that I would make are:-

  • You have only 2,421 edits in total, and while edit-count should not be a factor, in reality it is with many editors, who like 3,000 as a minimum. You can achieve that quite quickly.
  • You have only 156 edits in wikispace, and only 18 in wikitalk. This will not be acceptable; involvement in wiki pages (AfD and RfA especially) is the way in which your knowledge of wiki-policy is assessed.
  • you have only been editing for a short time.

I would be confident, if asked, that if you were to apply for RfA in 2 or 3 months you would have a great chance of being approved. I would suggest that youi wait for a short time, get some editing experience within WP:NAMESPACE, and I think that you will achieve the tools with no trouble. Aim for about 3,000 edits total, 300 in wikispace, 50 in wikitalk and all should be well. On that basis, and assuming that you do not do anything naughty (I am certain that you will not) I will support you. I check WP:RfA daily, so will find your nomination when it appears. Or, if you wish, you can ask me to nominate you round about August/September, and all being well I would be happy to do so. We need more people who really want to improve the encyclopedia--Anthony.bradbury 23:42, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Arnon and thanks for your good wishes in the last fortnight. As you know, I don't eat birthday cake, but you may indeed have a banana! Hope all is well with you and all the best with the schoolwork commitments! Blnguyen (bananabucket) 02:21, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please be careful when you revert vandalism edits. On this page there have recently been two vandals working, and in your eagerness to nullify them you have on several occasions perpetuated vandalism edits. Specifically, the second word of the article, which should be carnation, but which is changed in several amendments by you to stoner. I can see in the history where this word is first inserted (by an IP vandal) but it is important, when you revert, to ensure that you revert to a clean version.--Anthony.bradbury 15:58, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. Take a look at WP:REVERT.--Anthony.bradbury 16:08, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My edits

[edit]

Arnon,

my edits are not vandalism as previous users have highlighted issues with sections of those articles (see article talk pages). wikipedia has a clear policy, from what i have read, on original research and inaccuracy. i will be sure to add comments to my edits for your benefit.

Cool, thanks. it was a pleasure speaking with you. take care.

BotKung

[edit]

Hi. BotKung basically looks at recent changes in Thai Wikipedia and check those articles for interwiki links. Right now, it doesn't check English articles. I am thinking what would be the best way to pull the articles from the English Wikipedia as pulling recent changes from English Wikipedia may not work so well. (Since there are so many changes every minute). If you have suggestions, please let me know. You can read the details about what BotKung does here. Thanks! --Jutiphan | Talk - 04:06, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My edits

[edit]

Information on this page is inappropriate to the mission of Wikipedia. Logos are trademarked and schedules are flexible. They are not verificable facts. They should be removed. the page shoudl just contain the historical information for WEPN not a bunch of useless fluff.

Blanking the page is not vandalism is copyrighted material not approprite is removed. Wikipedia is 90% junk. The WEPN page is supposed to be historical not promotoinal. Disney promotes its own. Corrections by Disney personal to all Wikipedia are ongoing, including removing erroneous material. WEPN has an Disney constructed website. Useless inaccurate information benefits no one. Deal with the real vanadlaism using Wiki to slander people.

You're right!

[edit]

You're right - I'll delete the duplicate warning. Sorry about that - I do check sometimes, but not always. I've a plan for improving the anti-vandal script I use to prevent it, but I need to improve my Javascript before I do. Philip Trueman 17:53, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Were you talking about User talk:85.73.196.233? And why is giving a level four warning to a vandal bad? *Cremepuff222* "As cool as grapes..." 23:52, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
So was that IP the one you were talking about? *Cremepuff222* "As cool as grapes..." 17:09, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Um, I gave him a level two warning first. Then MartinBot gave him another warning (so I considered that a level three), then I gave the anon a level four. *Cremepuff222* "As cool as grapes..." 17:12, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

About my edits.

[edit]

I don't understand how adding lyrics to a cd page is considered vandalism. It's hard to find japanese lyrics in romanji. There are plenty of other pages that have romanized lyrics for japanese songs.

If I edited it wrong, can you explain how I should go about it? Thank you.

Editing.

[edit]

But I thought I started another section for lyrics? I didn't realize that I deleted something else. If I go back and redo what I did before without deleting anything else (in the same style as before) will everything be okay? I'm new to this, but I don't mean any harm.

Thank you!

Yeah, and you think he couldn't have changed? That, and hasn't the ban been lifted? Whsitchy 22:27, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Re: gaillimh. I didn't think it was that uncivil (hell, I think my comment above was uncivil). All I personally see is that Mask was not familiar with process on what to do, just a heated debate.
Re: Ryan's. Unlike gaillimh's, Ryan's is point is a bit more obvious. The reverts were uncalled for. On the other hand, he was wise in asking for proof, but not wise in jumping the gun on it and not giving someone a chance to provide it. Whsitchy 22:38, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I moved to neutral. The point ryan brought up was too hard to ignore. Whsitchy 22:41, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Arnon, I will be happy to participate in clean-up week, but as I spend now anywhere between 2 and 5 hours daily on backlog cleaning, I am not certain that I have much more capacity.--Anthony.bradbury"talk" 21:23, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks very much for wishing me happy birthday! I had a great day - well, it could have been better, I spent all day studying for an exam! But let's concentrate on the positives, hmmm? :) My friends got me a great cake, a lot like this one, and since you've been so kind, I saved you a piece. Thank you for all that you have done!
How much love resides therein!
All one's gifts are never gone:
Not seen, perhaps, but stored within.
Kindness is an inner sun.

Your unspent heart a message sends
Of grace and sacrifice hard-won
Upon which happiness depends!

Thank you so much, dear Arnie! :) Love,

Thank you for your support and comments at my RfA
Hi Arnie, It still amazes me that otherwise "anonymous" editors take the time to place !votes and comments on RfAs. Whilst I would have normally thanked you at the time of you leaving your message, the importance of my not appearing to be canvassing prevented me from so doing. Now that everything has progressed successfully I can finally thank you. I intend to uphold a style of good adminship and will welcome your further comments at any time in the future, even if they are in the form of admonishment. I will be happy to help as an admin wherever and whenever I can --VS talk 22:49, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You have been blocked

[edit]

Good morning, Arnon Chaffin. We have evidence that your account has been hijacked, and have blocked it to prevent abuse. I noticed that you have an SHA-1 committed identity. To have your account unblocked:

  • If you know the password:
    • Change the password. It should consist of letters and numbers and not be guessed easily.
    • Email info-en-o@wikimedia.org with the original string that you used to get the SHA-1 hash on your userpage and your username. You should tell them that you changed the password. A confidential volunteer will check it, confirming that you have the right code.
  • If you do not know the password:
  • If that doesn't work:
    • Email info-en-o@wikimedia.org with the original string that you used to get the SHA-1 hash on your userpage and your username. You should tell them that you need the password and email reset. A confidential volunteer will check it, confirming that you have the right code, and ask a developer to reset the necessary information.
  • If you need help, ask here, or contact info-en-o@wikimedia.org . Thanks, --ST47Talk·Desk 20:02, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Note: I've unblocked this account due to evidence that this is indeed Arnon; if the discrepant edits continues, it may be re-blocked on sight by any sysop. —[[Animum | talk]] 22:13, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia rules allow deletion of read messages

[edit]

"Archiving of one's own user talk page is not required. A user may simply delete any comments they have read, whether they have acted on them or not. The only exception to this are warnings of vandalism and other abuse on anon IP talk pages. These must be retained so that admins can readily apply or remove edit blocks."[1]--John Foxe 14:27, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not retard I know that policy but.. I don't know if you are currently in a edit war with someone that is why I aks you to leave the warning on you page.Arnon Chaffin (Talk) 14:28, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Whether I'm in an edit war or no, I'm not an anon IP and therefore, I am permitted to delete read messages.--John Foxe 14:39, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks!

[edit]

Dear Arnon, thanks for the unexpected starry delight! Keep up the good RC patrol work! :) All the best, ~Eliz81(C) 23:10, 27 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks and some guidance please

[edit]

Hi Arnon, Thanks for the welcome to Wikipedia - much appreciated. I have attempted to add my company to the "scottish companies" page. On each occasion my entry has been deleted. I have attempted to discuss the issue with the individual concerned, but his responses are judgemental and do not comply with the criteria stated on the scottish companies page. He/she appears to have a history of inappropriate edits. How do I resolve this matter/ I'd appreciate any guidance you can give me. Thanks, Steven. Hourston 14:48, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Advice

[edit]

Hi Arnon,

Thanks for the advice and help. I have visited the pages you suggest and having read the talk page for Scottish companies, I felt encouraged to add my company to the page. I guess I'm in what seems to be called an edit war - I've tried discussing this with the person who deletes my entries, but can't resolve the issue. Before I take it to the next stage, can you give me an opinion as to whether I'm misunderstanding Wikipedia or if you think I have a case for escaltion? I appreciate your thoughts and time. Thanks Hourston 17:40, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
