Speedy deletion nomination of The Earful Tower Podcast
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on The Earful Tower Podcast requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://theearfultower.com/about/ and https://inspirelle.com/event/meet-the-gees-discovering-paris-with-joy-curiosity-and-fun/. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Creating draft
[edit]If you would like to start over and summarize what reliable secondary sources say about the show in your own words you can click on this red link and start editing: Draft:The Earful Tower Podcast TipsyElephant (talk) 21:12, 27 May 2024 (UTC)
- Do I just publish the draft, and it gets reviewed, or do I request a review? Can it exist as a draft indefinitely without threat of removal? How do others see my draft? Thanks! Atolkachev (talk) 21:19, 27 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Atolkachev: I added a banner to the top of the draft. When you're ready just click the blue button that says "submit for review". Anyone can find and edit the draft, however, you won't see it in a Google search. Drafts will not be deleted if they have been edited within the last 6 months per WP:Drafts#Deleting_a_draft. Managing a conflict of interest
[edit]Hello, Atolkachev. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization, clients, or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{edit COI}} template)—don't forget to give details of reliable sources supporting your suggestions;
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest § How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam § External link spamming);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. If you remove this notice yourself, as you did the previous COI notice, I will block you indefinitely Jimfbleak - talk to me? 08:09, 28 May 2024 (UTC)

[edit]That's very odd. I saw this edit with a bot edit summary staing that you had removed a COI tag, but it appears that you actually removed an advertisement tag yourself (which you still shouldn't do). Apologies for the confusion. Any other queries, I'm unlikely to see until tomorrow now Jimfbleak - talk to me? 16:52, 28 May 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks, added follow up questions to your talk page. Not sure if I should have continued the conversation here. Atolkachev (talk) 17:15, 28 May 2024 (UTC)
- As for the removal of the advertising tag, I do recall doing it: I removed it when I removed portions of the content that appeared as advertising. I assumed but did not verify that that is the procedure. Can you clarify the correct procedure should I receive a notice in the future? Thank you! Atolkachev (talk) 17:47, 28 May 2024 (UTC)
more
[edit]I flagged up the COI because your comment on the deleted talk page because I have created it at the explicit request of the owner of the podcast and using the materials freely available on his website as I assumed would be his wish. indicated that you had been personally asked to create the page, using his website, which is not an independent third-party source. If that were the case, it's not quite the same as just being a viewer.
I've tidied up the text a bit, but two of your refs are a bare url and an unhelpful "Charitable" with no author or topic title. your last ref gives an "access denied" message. Five of your refs, 5-9 are flagged by a script as being of mediocre quality, and several of your refs appear to be reviews rather than sources of real facts. What people think of the podcast isn't a criterion for notability.
I'm not convinced that this meets our notability guidelines, but when you've fixed the refs, I suggest that you submit it for review and see what the reviewer thinks (it won't be me) Jimfbleak - talk to me? 08:12, 29 May 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you, I was worried that was the case re: COI. I came at this project from a naive perspective and without sufficiently (or at all) studying the current philosophy of Wikipedia content creation. The host of the podcast asked on the show (about two years ago): how come there isn’t a Wikipedia page for the podcast? I checked and decided to right the “wrong”, coming at it from my 15-year-or-so-old perspective that editing Wikipedia was easy and for everyone. I have learned a lot in the past few days. My statement that I was creating this article at the request of the host was a stretch of the facts and was meant to justify reusing the host’s content, which I have since learned is not allowed. I did myself and project a disservice and want to set the record straight.
- As for the last ref, it did die over the past 6 years and the web archive copies I found show voting in progress. When the voting finished, the podcast was voted best in Paris. In the world of travel podcasts and podcasts on Paris, this podcast is a big deal, and I am still looking for ways to show this through refs. The host is a published author of children’s books about Paris, which aspiration came out of and is related podcasting as he finds book themes in his research. I wonder if I need to incorporate that info in the Host section.
- Thank you for the education if not outright vote of confidence. I will try to do better. Atolkachev (talk) 14:07, 29 May 2024 (UTC)
