Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page Baul has been reverted.
Your edit here to Baul was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove links which are discouraged per our external links guideline. The external link(s) you added or changed (http://lineagebaul.blogspot.com/) is/are on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. If the external link you inserted or changed was to a blog, forum, free web hosting service, fansite, or similar site (see 'Links to avoid', #11), then please check the information on the external site thoroughly. Note that such sites should probably not be linked to if they contain information that is in violation of the creator's copyright (see Linking to copyrighted works), or they are not written by a recognised, reliable source. Linking to sites that you are involved with is also strongly discouraged (see conflict of interest).
If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. However, if the link does not comply with our policies and guidelines, but your edit included other, constructive, changes to the article, feel free to make those changes again without re-adding the link. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Thanks! --XLinkBot (talk) 05:57, 1 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute to the encyclopedia, one or more of the external links you added to the page Baul with this edit do not comply with our guidelines for external links and have been removed. Wikipedia is not a collection of links; nor should it be used as a platform for advertising or promotion, and doing so is contrary to the goals of this project. Because Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page before reinserting it. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. Thank you. SeaphotoTalk 08:11, 1 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Word to the wise

[edit]

Hi Babu,

As you are discovering, although Wikipedia is the 'Encyclopedia anyone can edit" - by the same token it is the encyclopedia where anyone can revert anyone else's edit. There are some rules of the road, policies, and protocols, particularly when dealing with topics in which one has a personal interest. One has to recognize the policies on conflict of interest, referencing reliable sources - which should be secondary, so as to avoid comprising original research. In such cases it is advisable, especially if one is not an experienced Wikipedia editor, to tread lightly and in a detached manner. A wise procedure is to make gentle suggestions on the article in question's talk page as to ways the article might be improved, noting omissions, mentioning published sources, and being politely honest about any personal conflict of interest. If the suggestions are valid more experienced editors will very likely then take up the torch. On the other hand, if one clumsily adds large amounts of ostensibly personal unreferenced detail to a general article, one is not usually going to get reverted, and may even create needless antipathy to the material in question - not the desired outcome at all. There does already exist an article on Purna Das Baul Samrat and additional information on his background and heritage would also be welcome there. Again, I suggest going to the talk page - declaring your interest and personal relationship - and then discussing how the article might be improved. Remember to sign your discussion s using the ~~~~ which will automatically generate your signature.

On the question of adding the 'lineage' site to the 'External Links' the reason 'xLinkBot' - which is just a robot - keeps excluding it is that 1) it is a general wikipedia policy not to link to blogs, and 2) to be wary of links that are posted by what are known as single purpose accounts which automatically are suspected to be self-serving rather than motivated by the public interest. That said, the Baul article is not overloaded with external links, and there is at least one other that does link to a Baul artist personal site, the 'no blog links' rule is not hard and fast - so it is not out of the question that, if a more experienced editor posted the link - perhaps after a cooling off period - it might stand.

Hope this helps. I know wikipedia processes can be a bit daunting, not to mention frustrating, at first encounter - but if one perseveres and succeeds in adding well referenced canonical material one can find it very rewarding!
