Welcome![edit]

Hello, BartlettIntern, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited was Draft:Ben Bartlett (Politician), which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! Hi Exemplo347,

Thanks for the memo regarding conflicts of interests when writing/editing Wiki articles.

I am an intern for the subject of Wiki draft Ben Bartlett (Politician). I would like to disclose my conflict of interests, but also submit the draft for review when the time comes. My intention is that the article be written to encyclopedic standards, but given my unique position as a person with conflict of interest I am aware that I cannot claim to be wholly impartial.

For the account in question, "BartlettIntern," there is only one user for the account, but I will soon change the account name to reduce confusion which would result in the account being blocked from editing.

I would appreciate feedback for the draft, and would humbly request that the draft not be deleted solely due to its status as a conflict of interest document. I believe the draft to be rigorously researched and contains ample references to identifiable sources.

Thank you,

Pinging Exemplo347 - doesn't seem to be a question here. Primefac (talk) 00:48, 25 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
As a note, the draft will not be reviewed until you click the "Submit your draft for review" button in the grey box at the top of the draft. It will not be deleted solely because you have a COI, but will be reviewed based on its content and tone. Primefac (talk) 00:49, 25 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • @BartlettIntern: Greetings. Have you read through WP:COI? It details the procedures you should follow to declare your conflict of interest properly. An important part of that policy is that, as you have a Conflict of Interest, you should not be creating or editing articles about your employer. If you could reply here once you have thoroughly read through the policy, I can give you some ideas about your next steps. Regards Exemplo347 (talk) 00:52, 25 March 2017 (UTC) Thanks for the ping, Primefac[reply]
Exemplo347, incidentally, the draft space is the only space where paid-COI creation is allowed (though strongly discouraged). This is because the article will be vetted by an experienced reviewer who will decline the draft if it's overly promotional or fails the other criteria for inclusion. This is spelled out a little better at WP:PAY (which, incidentally, is a subsection of WP:COI). Primefac (talk) 00:56, 25 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
As some general advice regarding the draft, I'd point out that Wikipedia content should be based on reliable sources that are independent of the subject, such as articles about Bartlett published by newspapers or reputable magazines. Right now much of the draft seems to be based on primary sources, including an entire section merely quoting a letter by Bartlett himself. Another issue are external links: The body of a Wikipedia article generally should not include any external links. Either the pages you link to are reliable sources that are used to confirm the draft's statements; then they should be treated as references. Or they provide relevant information about the subject but are unsuitable as references, such as Bartlett's personal website - then they should be listed in a dedicated "External links" section at the end of the article (but see WP:ELNO on what links to avoid). If they fall in neither category, they should be removed outright. Huon (talk) 01:00, 25 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
