Welcome! And a note about linking to external pages[edit]

Hello, CBHusky, and welcome to Wikipedia! I noticed that you've added links to the UW library for photographs pertaining to article topics, and that is generally OK per our external link guidelines. However, what's not OK is linking to a generic entry page to a collection of photographs that require the reader to go find the relevant photos themselves; for example, this link you added to Volunteer Park (Seattle) doesn't lead directly to set of images of Volunteer Park, but instead to a generic front page. Those kinds of links are to be avoided and are usually removed eventually. If possible, could you update the links to point more specifically to the images pertaining to each article topic? Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "[]"s. • CBHusky, I think that the links you are adding to all these articles are probably valid in their own right, but it seems to me that this is your only interest on Wikipedia. Please convince me otherwise. Thank you, Drmies (talk) 18:09, 19 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

January 2015[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm Dennis Bratland. I wanted to let you know that I removed one or more external links you added to the page Playhouse Theatre (Seattle), because they seemed to be inappropriate for an encyclopedia. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page, or take a look at our guidelines about links.

Please see WP:ELNO #9. Links to general search results are avoided. Please only link to something specifically related to the article subject.

  • I can see now why the Blanche Morgan drawings are related to the Playhouse Theater, but when you drop a link into an article that has no mention of Blanche Morgan, the lack of context makes it difficult to see why the link is relevant. In some cases you need to expand the coverage of the article from secondary sources in order to justify the inclusion of an external link. You can also add the link to the article's talk page with a note requesting another editor take care of that for you at some future date, and then add the link. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 19:58, 5 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
