Hi Cifar1, and a warm welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you have enjoyed editing as much as I did so far and decide to stay. Please do not remove cleanup tags without making the necessary changes so that they no longer apply. Unfamiliar with the features and workings of Wikipedia? Don't fret! Here's some good links for your reference and that'll get you started in no time!

Most Wikipedians would prefer to just work on articles of their own interest. But if you have some free time to spare, here are some open tasks that you may want to help out :

  • RC Patrol - Keeping a lookout for vandalism.
  • Cleanup - Help make unreadable articles readable.
  • Requests - Wanted on Wikipedia, but hasn't been created.
  • Merge - Combining duplicate articles into one.
  • Wikiprojects - So many to join, so many to choose from...Take your pick!

Alternavox

Hi Cifar1. You seem to know Alternavox pretty well and you might be able to help Wikipedia by expending this article a little and remove the small advertisment bias it still has.

- Can you reference some of the information described? (see footnote of similar article CKOI-FM)

- Do figure exist on how much people listen to this show?

- You could also tell on what station this show air

- Information on the show host could also be added

- Can you explain what is meant by "the FIRST alternative Latin radio show"? Is it the first to exist or the first in rating?

- I'm not sure why a dictionnary definition is pasted at the end of the article. It should be in a different section (using ==SectionName== ). It could also be a link to a Wiktionary entry!

Another editor has added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Alternavox, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. A tag has been placed on Alternavox requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.) or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Canadian Institute for Advanced Research with this edit. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate may links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. We are a government/donor supported non-profit with no interest in solicitation or spamming. We raise/give money to fund research projects worldwide. Edits to the existing article include expansion of our history, some milestones achieved by the research we fund, the areas that we provide funding to and some information about our program to help young scientists launch careers. Of the above, I think the blocking administrator took Milestones as being self-promotion. We are willing to edit or remove this section if you could provide further guidelines. Please unblock. Agreed. Every answer above showed a profound ignorance of Wikipedia policies and guidelines, and a complete disregard of past actions that led to this block.
Cifar1, to address your answers above:
  • "Wikipedia is not a business directory" means that the information you attempted to add was not encyclopedic, not suitable for an encyclopedia, but more suitable for a business directory.
  • You clearly do not grasp the concept of conflict of interest. Wikipedia does not exist, as you seem to think, "to let relevant parties know of opportunities to apply for grants, fellowships, or introduce interested parties to the world of advanced research." This isn't a place to promote those things, and no neutral independent editor would do so.
  • The question about notability applied to the article you attempted to create about Alternavox. You have not demonstrated that you understand why this was deleted and why you cannot create it again.
  • Wikipedia accounts are not "we" accounts. They are not role accounts editing in behalf of an organization. They are individual, personal accounts, representing one person and no one else.

Do you understand that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and not a business directory?

Yes, I understand that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, with the purpose of providing factual information to the public. I have been blocked from editing the page for the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research. But, now that I understand more about Wikipedia, I will be sure to only include facts that may be of interest to readers. I will edit the article so that it contains up-to-date historical information about the Institute, key individuals that were involved throughout its 30 year history, as well as more information about what the Institute does. Citations from independent sources will verify the facts.

Do you understand conflict of interest?

Yes, I understand that I should avoid any biases and simply stick to the facts. For instance, when editing the Institute’s Wiikipedia page, I will only add more factual information about what the Institute does and its history, and remove out-of-date details. I will make sure to include links to information sources other than the Institute’s homepage.

Do you understand that to be considered for an encyclopedia article, the subject must be notable?

Yes. The article that I am trying to edit is about an Institute that has published several books and has made notable scientific research achievements through its programs. I would like to add more details about the Institute so that it reflects that. The current page is out-of-date.

NOTE: I am not affiliated with, and I don’t know anything about ‘Alternavox.’ I never attempted to create an article about it.

I failed to notice that the warning messages above about Alternavox are years old. My apologies.
However, that means this account is controlled by more than one person. The Alternavox article was created by this account, first in October 2007, and re-created again in July 2009. If you didn't personally create that article, then someone else with access to this account did so.

Cifar1, the end result of this is: This account, Cifar1, will not be unblocked, and you will have to create a new one. This is actually beneficial, because you were showing that you understood that the account name containing "Cifar" looks like a role account anyway, which isn't really allowed, and you were going to change it. It actually seems likely that the Cifar1 account used to be used by somebody else, who created the Alternavox article with it, and the account login credentials were later handed down to you. Create a new account that identifies you as an individual, following the instructions at WP:COMPROMISED. Looks like you will have to create the new account from a different computer. Thank you for your email, but I prefer to keep Wikipedia business on Wikipedia, not in private communication, so I will respond here.

Your email to me requesting your IP address be unblocked failed to instill any trust. You claim to be one person (Lawrence), yet you send me email from an address that clearly belongs to another (Ramirez)? Are all accounts at your organization as compromised as your Wikipedia account has been?

You state "It is not possible for me to set up another account on another IP address because this is my IP address." No, it is not your IP address. Doesn't it belong to your organization? Your organization has lost the trust of the Wikipedia community, with its history of promotional edits and multiple people accessing the same account. Therefore, not just this account, but your organization (at least one particular IP address), is blocked.

You were instructed above to refer to WP:COMPROMISED for information on how to proceed. Please do so. If you wish to create a new account, you can do so from home or from any number of internet access locations (coffee shops or what not) available in your area. If you do so, you should clearly disclose your conflict of interest and prior accounts you have used on your user page.
