Orlando Eye
[edit]Hi. I reverted your recent edits [1][2] which changed "The Orlando Eye is a giant Ferris wheel" to "The Orlando Eye is a giant Observation wheel" (please note that similar reverts have also been made on three previous occasions [3][4][5]). Please see the first paragraph of Orlando Eye#Design and construction, which already deals with the operator's claim that the Orlando Eye is an observation wheel. Please see also these discussions:
- Ferris wheel#Observation wheels
- Talk:Observation wheel#References?
- Talk:Ferris wheel/Archive 1#Observation Wheel
- Talk:Ferris wheel#The London Eye *isn’t* a Ferris Wheel!
- Talk:London Eye#Ferris wheel or not
Please also note:
- Wheels which are marketed as, or claim to be, observation wheels are all primarily described as Ferris wheels in their respective articles - see High Roller (Ferris wheel), Singapore Flyer, London Eye, Melbourne Star, and New York Wheel. The 'observation wheel' claim is most commonly made for wheels with externally mounted passenger capsules - see the same five articles - as opposed to suspended capsules; the Orlando Eye has suspended capsules.
- There is no 'Observation wheel' article; Observation wheel has been a redirect to Ferris wheel#Observation wheels since June 2008.
- There is no generally accepted definition for observation wheels (to be an observation wheel, it has been claimed that the wheel must have externally mounted passenger capsules; or have stabilised capsules; or have enclosed capsules; or that the structure be of the cantilever type; or simply that it not be located in an amusement park) and hence there is no Category:Observation wheels.
If you disagree, please feel free to discuss at Talk:Orlando Eye - but do not change the lead description back to 'observation wheel' without first establishing a clear consensus. Thank you. 81.141.58.213 (talk) 20:01, 13 May 2015 (UTC)
