Rollback granted

Hi Darren-M. After reviewing your request for "rollbacker", I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! - TNT 💖 17:46, 31 December 2019 (UTC)

Reactive revert on Bechara Choucair

Actually look at the nonsensical, immaterial, truncated sentence snippet you restored to Bechara Choucair, please. 24.74.166.107 (talk) 18:19, 31 December 2019 (UTC)

Hi there. Taking a second look I agree, but do you not think the source is beneficial? Darren-M (talk) 18:23, 31 December 2019 (UTC)
Hi. It seemed to offer no value as is. Had you expanded on it, perhaps. It seemed immaterial to do so on that article, though, to me, at least, in that placement... perhaps it is better suited to an earlier part of the article, if expanded for context. If you think it actually enhances the article, please go ahead and do something with it. You were the second person to revert that, as well, with no alteration to content, despite that being restoring a mere snippet, not even a sentence. Inherent Twinkle use short-coming, seems. Thanks for the note.24.74.166.107 (talk) 18:32, 31 December 2019 (UTC)
Also, in both reverts, "unexplained" content removal was cited, and yet, explanations were given in both cases. So, this seems like a Twinkle time-wasting issue. Since I got reverted twice, with reasons that did not apply to the situation, I look forward to you now reverting yourself on that, or fixing the dangling, unattached non-sentence in question. Thank you.24.74.166.107 (talk) 19:08, 31 December 2019 (UTC)
@24.74.166.107: Happy to take another look and thank you for clarifying further, but I note you have already reverted my edit again. Please be careful not to fall foul of WP:EDITWAR. Best, Darren-M (talk) 19:21, 31 December 2019 (UTC)
No, you are mistaken... I have not reverted any edit of yours. Instead, I posted notes here and to the other editor's page, to avoid any WP:EDITWAR. (I had reverted the first reverting editor, not you, which you then reverted, restoring the partial sentence to the article, leading to here.) Now, I see, you have put the snippet to some real use. 24.74.166.107 (talk) 19:36, 31 December 2019 (UTC)

Removal of Obama in "List of Native Hawaiians"

I removed Barack Obama as a native Hawaiian by citing that his ancestry does not include anybody of Hawaiian descent. You reverted it back stating that I did not provide any sources.

His own wikipedia page Barack Obama states that his mother is "mostly of English descent with some German, Irish, Scottish, Swiss, and Welsh ancestry" and his father "was a Luo Kenyan from Nyang'oma Kogelo." Nowhere does it mention that he has Native Hawaiian lineage. Now these may not be primary sources but given that the article is a "featured article" on wikipedia with a semi-protection lock, I do believe that these statements are accurate. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 165.225.48.111 (talk) 20:27, 31 December 2019 (UTC)

@165.225.48.111: My rationale for this was that it may be interpreted as referencing the debunked controversy surrounding his right to American citizenship or lack thereof, especially given the semi-protected status of the main article. If he was born in Hawaii, then I would view him as being a 'native' of Hawaiian irrespective of lineage. Possibly one to be discussed on Talk:Barack_Obama for consensus? Darren-M (talk) 20:37, 31 December 2019 (UTC)
Sure go ahead. However, I would argue that you are changing the definition of Native Hawaiian and erasing the proud heritage of the Hawaiian Aborigines. This is literally the definition of native Hawaiian from the link on the "List of Native Hawaiians" page, "Native Hawaiians (Hawaiian: kānaka ʻōiwi, kānaka maoli and Hawaiʻi maoli) are the Aboriginal Polynesian people of the Hawaiian Islands or their descendants." This isn't like saying you are from a state. Native Hawaiians are a distinct ethnic group of people. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:152:4002:D4E0:4070:D701:F9A5:53D (talk) 21:44, 31 December 2019 (UTC)

Anya

To Dan, We may be thinking of a different Anya. So to help me with the Anya I am thinking of, may you please state how you make your own Wikipedia page. If you do I would be very grateful. your sincerely Etkde Etkde (talk) 19:36, 3 January 2020 (UTC)

@Etkde: Thanks for your message. I reverted your edits as the page relates to usage of the name Anya broadly, rather than to a specific individual. You can find information here about creating a new article, but please note that in particular your article must meet the requirements in WP:NOTABILITY, i.e. whether an individual is sufficient notable (well known) to merit their own article. Thank you for editing Wikipedia! Darren-M talk 19:43, 3 January 2020 (UTC)
To Dan,
Thank you for your response to my message. Because of this you have given me wider knowledge about Wikipedia.
Yours sincerely Etkde

recent changes to Rejina Sabur-Cross

Hi Darren

I AM Rejina Sabur-Cross and the changes I made about myself were completely accurate. I am very unhappy that you have not allowed me to change my own profile!

Furthermore, there is a lot of personal information concerning my family and my details which have led to identity fraud.

I would actually like the whole page to be deleted as it was put up by a vindictive relative in Bangladesh. Can you help with this?

Thanks

Rejina — Preceding unsigned comment added by Juie45 (talkcontribs) 13:31, 4 January 2020 (UTC)

Hi Rejina. Welcome to Wikipedia. I reverted your edits as they didn't seem to reflect a neutral point of view. Words like "unique" usually indicate bias and are discouraged by our manual of stylle (our guidelines about how our articles should be written). We would also discourage editing articles that you have a strong personal interest in (e.g. articles about yourself, your employer, or your creations). This is what is known as a conflict of interest.
Wikipedia will only list information that is already in the public domain and can be evidenced with sources. If you would like this article to be deleted, you'll need to follow the process at WP:Articles for deletion where the community will consider the proposal.
One final note; when you're responding to somebody on a talk page like this, please make sure to sign your comments by typing. ~~~~ at the end of your text; this will automatically add your name and a timestamp. In this case, a bot has done it for you. Best, Darren-M talk 13:45, 4 January 2020 (UTC)

Re: Adela Serra Ty

Hi Darren, i appreciate your concern, but I have to ask, how can the truth be neutral? What is the basis of your removal of information when you cannot check them yourself? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kevorde (talkcontribs) 19:07, 4 January 2020 (UTC)

Hi @Kevorde:. Thanks for your comment. If we're adding something to an article, we need to be able to back it up with reliable sources so that everybody can check that it is accurate and factual for themselves. Otherwise it would count as original research, which isn't allowed. Best, Darren-M talk 19:13, 4 January 2020 (UTC)

http://astmmc.doh.gov.ph/transparency/about-us WILL YOU HAVE TIME TO READ THIS AND FACT CHECK OR DO YOU ONLY DELETE REAL INFO THAT YOU JUST MISJUDGED WITHOUT BASIS? Kevorde (talk) 19:33, 4 January 2020 (UTC)

Here’s another about Mario Serra Ty, https://www.sdssu.edu.ph/academics/library/index.php Kevorde (talk) 19:36, 4 January 2020 (UTC)

HI @Kevorde:. Yes, those look like sources that we can use, though note that the first is a source published by the entity themselves and therefore is subject to WP:ABOUTSELF. If you'd like to make edits to the article off the back of it, feel free (just remember to cite the source! Happy editing :) Best, Darren-M talk 19:39, 4 January 2020 (UTC)

re: Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band

That's not an issue sir. I understand you removing my recent edit to Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, for you are very right that it definitely is not neutral. I'll try to present a neutral point to the users from now. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nick Ferrant (talkcontribs) 19:08, 4 January 2020 (UTC)

Hi @Nick Ferrant:. No problem at all, let me know if I can help at all! Best, Darren-M talk 19:13, 4 January 2020 (UTC)

u don't deserve to edit wiki if you don't believe what i am editing — Preceding unsigned comment added by Harrisy101 (talkcontribs) 12:13, 5 January 2020 (UTC)

@Harrisy101: your edit does not represent the source for the quotation, hence my reversion. Best, Darren-M talk 12:15, 5 January 2020 (UTC)

Nah (note by Darren-M: in reference to this notice posted on their talk page)

mitch and I have a very long history and also know each other in real life, and he cannot help himself - it is almost impossible to edit anything on western australian topics without his interference - it is uncomfortable to edit when you know he will try to find some issue. Best left as is. In particular the response was with some validity as he was trying to edit without allowing for a co-ordination of some edits between articles. JarrahTree 11:32, 5 January 2020 (UTC)

it is almost impossible to edit anything on western australian topics without his interference — I've already refuted that implausible assertion with this post to my talk page, but JarrahTree is welcome to provide more recent verifiable statistics to justify his assertion. Mitch Ames (talk) 12:42, 8 January 2020 (UTC)
@JarrahTree: I do not contest that you may be justified in responding in connection with reversions or other edits made by a member, but that does not give you justification for your specific comments. As per my note on your talk page, I would advise striking as this is not in the spirit of WP:CIVIL, specifically WP:NPA. Darren-M talk 11:42, 5 January 2020 (UTC)
there is a point where you can over-do it - the item has been removed, and really however much we hope for a civil cohort, there is always an aspect of what really happens on and off wiki which involves much more noxious behaviour and interactions, and I could lead you into a very dark world of the various toxic environments that editors have indulged, but the important aspect of making sure that editors are guided into the congenial and positive and hopeful world of creating a viable and coherent online encyclopedia, there are many who have never welcomed new editors, or even bothered to move beyond their comfort zones. It will augur well for you if you are so insistent on npa and civility, there is always worth looking at a talk page to get a sense of editors - some are amazingly helpful by never archiving for ages, and the record of the tone of the messages can help to understand what is happening. The ultimatetext always is the inner core of a career - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special%3ACentralAuth%2FJarrahTree - and always the telling point is the column that holds the record of blocks. But if the talk page is regularly archived then that clue is not there. But hey, there are other query devices that reveal even more - the one great thing is that every edit in however long we have been around are accessible... bar the admin deleted items - but that usually is a very small number... Thanks for your points, so the reversion happens, but then there is always a lot more going on in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:RecentChanges?hidebots=1&hidecategorization=1&limit=500&days=4&damaging__likelybad_color=c4&damaging__verylikelybad_color=c5&urlversion=2 that makes some people very nervous, but then is the more weirder item at http://listen.hatnote.com/ - it certainly is more surreal than reading talk pages... cheers JarrahTree 11:59, 5 January 2020 (UTC)
@JarrahTree: Thank you for your reversion. Happy editing! Best, Darren-M talk 12:16, 5 January 2020 (UTC)
@JarrahTree: in the context of the discussion in which it appears "... much more noxious behaviour and interactions, ... various toxic environments that editors have indulged" could easily be read as a personal attack. It's one thing to post a bit of friendly banter directly to my face, it's a different matter entirely to cast aspersions behind my back. If you're going to talk about me, the least you could do is ping me. Mitch Ames (talk) 12:42, 8 January 2020 (UTC)
inneresting my ancestry can be linked to alderley edge... and if you ever meet bazonka - say hello from me... JarrahTree 12:18, 5 January 2020 (UTC)

Galata Tower

What did you see that prompted you to make this reversion? If you look at the whole of that user's edits, it appears that they made good-faith infobox improvements. They did remove a necessary hatnote, but the old hatnote was a verbose monstrosity. They seem to have copied the infobox from Eiffel Tower as a template for their changes, which can make them temporarily seem like a vandal, but by the time they finished the diff from when they started looked clean. You only partially reverted to the bot's edit that removed protection templates from this unprotected page (Eiffel Tower is semi-protected), leaving their work-in-progress that makes it appear the page was vandalised. – wbm1058 (talk) 21:38, 7 January 2020 (UTC)

@Wbm1058: You're right, good spot. Best, Darren-M talk 17:17, 8 January 2020 (UTC)
