Hello. You tagged my article about Golden State Public Market. I was wondering if you could help me with it. How can I write it in a way that it won't be subject to speedy deletion? I have checked other articles and I saw the one about Portland Public Market. It appears to have less content than my article. How come that one gets to be published? I am sorry. Vandal Proof

Oh, I didn't know that it did that before. I haven't used Vandal Proof in quite some time and I was in the mood to use it and when I reverted the vandalism, it warned you instead of the vandal. Given its history of that (which, I wasn't aware of), I would say that it is not working yet. What do you use instead, if anything? Cheers and sorry for the mix-up. I copied the monobook.js of someone I saw using WP:TWINKLE. The interface is different, and I have to open the talkpage separately, but I like to read it before I give a warning anyway. Also, the copy I have does not work with internet explorer, but I already had Firefox, so it worked out. Hope that helps. If you like, you can copy my User:Dlohcierekim/monobook.js into yours and see if that helps. You have to refresh your browser cache before it takes effect. Re:Isiolo School for the Deaf

I checked it out before I deleted, and I didn't find any reason to keep the article. I can't find any reliable sources to back up Isiolo School for the Deaf, and I don't even know if it would meet notability guidelines (I believe it's a primary school). Don't know if we have an actual guideline nowadays. Basically, if it's an ordinary primary school, the article will be deleted, but if there's some level of notability, then it will be kept. About Abbie Gale's deletion

Hi Dlohcierekim, i am not an experienced user of wikipedia, i admit. but there are plenty of things from greek culture, i.e i could contribute with. abbie gale are one of the most promising and acclaimed bands. thus, i can not see any reason why they should not be included on wikipedia.

Anyway, the truth is i am very dissapointed with "Abbie Gale" and "Raining Pleasure" (the most successfull band in Greece) editing in wikipedia. And i honestly i am fed up with trying to edit their page and someone else deleting it. I.e i recently added a link to their new single. the first online spot where their nw single could be listened to. somebody deleted it.

Hello, Potis. It appears they do not meet our guideline, WP:Music. Apparently, the article met criteria for speedy deletion: "No assertion of importance/significance. An article about a real person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content that does not state why its subject is important or significant. This is distinct from questions of notability, verifiability and reliability of sources. If controversial, list the article at Articles for deletion instead.

Don't be discouraged. My first article was speedily deleted too.

WP:Music says:

There are many bands, singers and other musicians and musical ensembles with articles on Wikipedia (see Category:Musicians).

A musician or ensemble (note that this includes a band, singer, rapper, orchestra, DJ, musical theatre group, etc.) is notable if it meets any one of the following criteria:

  1. It has been the subject of multiple non-trivial published works whose source is independent from the musician/ensemble itself and reliable.[1]
    • This criterion includes published works in all forms, such as newspaper articles, books, magazine articles, and television documentaries[2] except for the following:
      • Media reprints of press releases, other publications where the musician/ensemble talks about themselves, and advertising for the musician/ensemble.
      • Works comprising merely trivial coverage, such as newspaper articles that simply report performance dates or the publications of contact and booking details in directories.
      • An article in a school or university newspaper (or similar) would generally be considered trivial but should be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
  2. Has had a charted hit on any national music chart.
  3. Has had a record certified gold or higher in at least one country.

  8. Has won or been nominated for a major music award, such as a Grammy, Juno, Mercury or Grammis award.
  9. Has won or placed in a major music competition.
  10. Has performed music for a work of media that is notable, e.g. a theme for a network television show, performance in a television show or notable film, inclusion on a compilation album, etc. (But if this is the only claim, it is probably more appropriate to have a mention in the main article and redirect to that page.)
  11. Has been placed in rotation nationally by any major radio network.
  12. Has been the subject of a half hour or longer broadcast across a national radio or TV network.

I think you meant to use {{tone}}. However, in this case, I think it's fine. There's no OR/POV and everything's cited. Don't worry, I won't oppose you for welcome messages. Your recent contributions look good, and even if you make a couple of mistakes every now and then, it does not look like you do something like "find a random much-edited article on an English football club, click "history" and welcome all redlinked editors, no matter whether they are vandals or how long ago they edited" (there is somebody currently on RfA whose welcome messages seem to have been made just like that). Welcoming new and productive users is good and useful (especially if you help them with their questions), welcoming everybody including stale accounts of already-indefblocked vandals just tells me somebody is padding their edit count in a brainless way. Anyway, good luck when you go for RfA; I will have another look at your contributions then, but I don't expect to find anything that will move me away from supporting you. I did all the B's and C's and D's yesterday, and I'd just like to warn you that by my last count, there are 1600 unsorted stubs. Unless you're actually a bot, don't think you'll get done in less than about ten hours, and even longer if you take breaks. Thanks for your note. Hmm, can you back that with a source? It's not enough to say "I saw it myself." If you can, please cite the source as a ref. Frankly, I don't see how this adds anything to the article, it's a bit disjointed, and could be read as insulting. You might also want to seek consensus on the article's discussion page before putting that back in. We have to be very carefull when writing about living people. Please see WP:BLP for more info. The Stubs pt 3

My theory is that the Project has reached a period of very rapid growth in terms of people who know even less about stub sorting than I do (which is not much).

So you think that there's simply more people making stub articles (definetly a lot more making articles) than there are stub sorters; or many of the good stub sorters have left and been replaced with less efficient ones?

In truth, I doubt that this backlog will shrink any more than the other backlogs.

I think it will. Back a year or so ago, it was only down to 200 articles tops, and most of the stub sorters could clear that in one sitting. Mostly, it actually stayed empty, two or three being added every so often. Maybe we could coordinate with other stub sorters (no idea where they are) and each of us watch a single letter at a time or something to keep it down.

If you notice where I could have picked a better stub- the more complex one's sometimes throw me- please let me know.

Almost everything is either a bio-stub, a corp-stub, an org-stub, or something that needs to be deleted and you can therefore remove the stub tag from. Anything else, you can get the gist for if you need to, but those are the main three (And yes, I realize they need to be further classified, but that only becomes a priority after that backlog gets cleared).

Hermeneutic circle

I've changed your tag from {{unsourced}} to {{citations}} since it does have citations, just partial ones. BTW the citation style used is standard in psychology articles but is normally accompanied by a bibliography so someone can figure out which work of 1997 work of Adler is being cited - see APA Style Essentials.

I've also put requests for help into Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject Philosophy and Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Bible/Biblical_criticism_work_group. I hope that helps. Egfrank 06:38, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

I default to that form of citation-- it's what I was taught. But as you say, there's usually a "Works Cited" section to refer to. Thanks for the tag change. That's the one I meant. I wanted to contribute about computational hermeneutics and hermeneutic insights in cognitive science. The postmodernist part is not written by me (and it has been simply copypasted from Hermeneutics#Hermeneutic circle).

I think, the exact reference is the following: Wæver, Ole (1996). "The rise and fall of the inter-paradigm debate". In Steve Smith at al (ed.). International Theory: Positivism and Beyond. Cambridge: Cambridge U. P.

The cited text in article Hermeneutic circle talks about postmodernism. Can Ole Wæver be realted to postmodernism in any way? If so, then maybe it will be exactly him who is cited in the article Hermeneutic circle.

The conjecture, that Ole Wæver really can be linked to posmodernism (as the cited text suggests) can be reinforced by Valerie Marcel. "The Constructivist Debate; Bringing Hermeneutics (Properly) In" (pdf). Institut d'études politiques de Paris.

But I am not an expert, even, I lack fundamentals, thus I cannot be sure.

removing from google cache

Hi - about 2 years ago i added a link to the band members of a band, one of whome was me - i didnt realise you werent allowed to, and i thought thats what everyone did. I got a message from you saying "this article appears to be about yourself and thats against the rules" and i removed it and apologised. however now when anyone googles me, the 4th entry or something under my name is your remonstrance - its so embarrassing, it makes me look like an idiot. How do i remove that wiki page from Google's cache?

Clarification about your recent deletions

Hi,

I notice you deleted some external links I added, hinting that they may be spam.

I've looked around various FAQs, and found the Project: Spam page, but I don't think the links I added qualify as spam. I don't like seeing useless commercial links on the site any more than you do. But, here is an example of why the links I added should be ok:

The Wikipedia page for the album Murmur_(album) by R.E.M. has a general description of the album, recording sessions, song listing, and a bit of interpretation and context, as it should. In the top right there are external links to some "Professional Reviews", obviously interesting for Wikipedia users but not appropriate for inclusion on Wikipedia itself.

Now look at the Murmur page on music-nerds.com: the page is a lengthy track-by-track description and analysis of the album. Not all of those songs have their own pages on Wikipedia (only 2, in fact), and this information isn't appropriate for Wikipedia itself, but people interested in reading about this album would likely find this page interesting, and unique. It's not just some casual blog with music reviews; it features essays on each track from an album, putting the album as a whole in much greater context than casual fan sites would.

So, I would love some kind of clarification about this. I am not looking for any kind of search engine ranking help or anything, I just think certain external pages are helpful.

I looked at the WP:EL page, and it seems to be somewhat at odds with what you're saying. According to that page's first paragraph, and expanded upon further down the page with similar language, an external link is ok if it contains "meaningful, relevant content that is not suitable for inclusion in an article for reasons unrelated to their reliability (such as reviews and interviews)".

That's exactly how I would describe the links I'd added. Too opinionated for Wikipedia proper, but highly relevant for people reading the article. They fit all the other criteria on WP:EL too.

But rather than discuss this here, it maybe would be better for me to discuss a possible external link on the article's talk page? :)

  1. ^ Self-promotion and product placement are not the routes to having an encyclopaedia article. The published works must be someone else writing about the musician, ensemble, composer, or lyricist. (See Wikipedia:Attribution#Self-published sources for details about the reliability of self-published sources, and Wikipedia:Conflict of interest for treatment of promotional, vanity material.) The barometer of notability is whether people independent of the subject itself have actually considered the musician, ensemble, composer, or lyricist notable enough that they have written and published non-trivial works that focus upon it. The rationale for this is easy to see -- someone simply talking about themselves in their own personal blog, website, book publisher, etc. does not automatically mean they have sufficient attention in the world at large to be called notable. If that was so then everyone could have an article. Wikipedia is not a directory.
