New page again
[edit]It's been a year since the talk page has been archived. This monster length showed nothing much but that I was really lax as an editor in the past year - I received just the same amount of messages (including routine updates from SCOTM and WPHK) as I'd receive during my peak days in one month... That could mean I'm stepping down from Wikipedia, or I need to really brush up my work...
Anyway Happy messaging! --Deryck C. 05:25, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
IMDb
[edit]Hello DC. In response to your comment: According to WP:V (policy) and WP:RS (guideline), "Articles should rely on reliable, third-party published sources with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy." IMDb allows any person with an e-mail account and a web browser that accepts cookies to set up an account and submit information. In my opinion, that makes their fact-checking reputation suspect. According to this essay, I am not alone in this opinion. It reads: "Trivia on sites such as IMDb or FunTrivia should not be used as sources. These media do not have adequate levels of editorial oversight or author credibility and lack assured persistence." Admittedly, this is just an essay, not a policy or guideline, but it does represent the assessments of many editors.
It appears that the hollywood.com and Variety pages dedicated to the film in question have exactly the same information. I wouldn't cite the hollywood.com page, as it caused my browser to crash. However, Variety is a publication that does have a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy, and I see no problem with citing it as a source. Thanks for finding those. Lam Tin Station
[edit]The number of pic thumbnails override the article itself, I just removed the least important one. If readers are interested by the station architechture, they have the choice to access to the photo catalog in Commons Wikimedia, that's all. -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk) 11:49, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
- I'm actually using 1440*900 full screen. For 1024*768, it's not entirely satisfying imo. I only demand removal of redundant image thumbnails. whichever you remove isn't my concern. -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk) 14:21, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
- This is it. I pray there is no aggression between us. Let's move on. =v= -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk) 14:36, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
There is currently a backlog of 57 users at Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user. Please consider offering adoption to one or more of these users. Don't forget to change their {{adoptme}} template to {{adoptoffer|Deryck Chan/Archive 10}}. Thank you for your continued participating in Wikipedia:Adopt-a-User. xenocidic (talk) 19:38, 1 May 2008 (UTC) |
No problem =) Just thought I would shake the leaves a little to try and clear up some of the backlog. I left about 160 users messages, so we should have no problem clearing it up. Best of luck with school. xenocidic (talk) 22:20, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

Categorization
[edit]How can we add any article to a particular category? I tried to categorize Y. Venugopal Reddy by adding [[Category:Indian economists] and [[Category:Governors of the Reserve Bank of India] at the bottom. But it did not work.Rohit Reddy™ (talk) 13:48, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
- I have tried that, but it was of no use. Here, I have put only single closing brackets because, if I put double closing brackets, they are categorizing this page.Rohit Reddy™ (talk) 05:01, 14 May 2008 (UTC)
You didn't see any edit history because I first saw the preview. It was not working. So, I did not save the page. Anyways, the article has been categorised by someone. Still, I could learn how to do that. Rohit Reddy™ (talk) 12:43, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

People ganging up to disrupt an article
[edit]Hi,
I found you at Wikipedia:Editor assistance. If you can spare a few minutes of your time helping out at Indo-Aryan loanwords in Tamil, I would be thankful.
I am developing an article on words borrowed by Tamil from Indo-Aryan languages. I am citing a standard authoritative lexicon from which I find the words that are borrowed before including them at Indo-Aryan loanwords in Tamil. There are a few people who seem to be intent in damaging the article by adding "cite" tags, "disputed" and "dubious" tags for the article and threatening to delete it within 24 hours.
Could you please help?
Thanks. Kris (talk) 19:00, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
Hey there Deryck Chan! This is a friendly reminder to update your status at Wikipedia:Adopt-a-User/Adoptee's Area/Adopters whenever it is appropriate in order to provide new users with the most up-to-date information on available adopters. Also please note that we will be removing adopters who have not edited in 60 days. If you become active again (and we hope you do!) please feel free to re-add yourself. Cheers! |

Propylene glycol
[edit]Why did you revert my addition that [Propylene glycol] causes cancer as studied by the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment OEHHA http://www.oehha.org/about.html? It originally made the Proposition 65 list of cancer causing chemicals on June 11, 2004. You can download the pdf file list of banned chemicals from the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, enacted in November 1986 by the State of California. The Proposition was intended by its authors to protect California citizens and the State's drinking water sources from chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm, and to inform citizens about exposures to such chemicals. I provided a credible, verifiable source.

Wikipedia's tagline
[edit]Hi. I noticed that you participated in a 2005/2006 discussion and straw poll on whether or not the tagline at the top of all Wikipedia articles should be changed from "From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia" to "From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia that anyone can edit". I don't know if you're still interested in this issue or not, but this exact change has been proposed once again, this time at the Village pump, and there is currently an RFC (Request for Comment) on the subject where it is being discussed.
