The use of flag icons in article

[edit]

Hello, I reverted the use of flag icons in the Jon Jones articles as per the Wikipedia guidelines stated here. It states, in part, "Flags should never indicate the player's nationality in a non-sporting sense; flags should only indicate the sportsperson's national squad/team or representative nationality." It might also be helpful to read the discussion at the MMA talk page. Thanks. SQGibbon (talk) 05:07, 22 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If the guidelines that cover the rest of Wikipedia aren't good enough then please read the discussion on the MMA talk page here. The consensus opinion there is to follow MOS:ICON as well. If you disagree with project and Wikipedia consensus please discuss it first and change the consensus view before reverting articles again. Thank you. SQGibbon (talk) 06:07, 22 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding this edit summary, SQGibbon already linked you to the relevant discussion in the message above. Wikipedia doesn't do polls. What authority do you have to tell somebody what to do? —LOL T/C 23:00, 5 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Muhammad Ali

[edit]

Before putting that table back into the article above the infobox please discuss it first at the talk page. This is a pretty radical deviation not just from how boxing articles are formatted but all Wikipedia articles. Also, there are many reasons for removing the flag icon from the infobox, read MOS:FLAG and WP:ICONDECORATION for many of them. Is there any reason at all to keep the flag other than your personal opinion? If you're going to go against the guidelines you need to build consensus to do so. Flag icons in MMA articles

[edit]

Consensus was reached on the MMA talk page here that flag icons should not be used in the tables recording the results of MMA bouts in accordance to Wikipedia consensus established at MOS:ICONS. I've invited you to participate in the discussion twice before and I'm inviting you again. But in the meantime the consensus is to not use the flag icons in this manner. I would ask that you respect that consensus and work to change it before adding them back in again. Thanks. SQGibbon (talk) 23:16, 5 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Alistair Overeem. Users are expected to collaborate with others and avoid editing disruptively.

In particular, the three-revert rule states that:

  1. Making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24-hour period is almost always grounds for an immediate block.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you continue to edit war, you may be blocked from editing without further notice.LOL T/C 02:16, 6 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
