Hi,

I would very much like to use this image for a 4-5 metre wide backdrop to an exhibition stand at the Abu Dhabi book fair in April. Would it be possible to obtain a much higher resolution image than that available on Wikipedia?

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Use of images of Lincoln Cathedral[edit]

Dear David Iliff.

I am a project manager at the Getty Conservation Institute (see getty.edu/conservation/). We are a non-profit organization based in Los Angeles.

My team is currently working with the City of Lincoln in England to implement a software platform, called Arches, that we have built and are making freely available to heritage organizations worldwide (see archesproject.org).

In launching the new system for Lincoln next month, we are making a short video highlighting the reasons for the new system. The video will be disseminated on the archesproject.org website.

We would very much like to use some of your beautiful images from the interior of the Lincoln Cathedral in the video.

Since I am not entirely familiar with the ins and outs of the license that you indicate on wikimedia, I am asking if you would be willing to give us permission to use the following 3 images:

https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Lincoln_Cathedral_Rood_Screen,_Lincolnshire,_UK_-_Diliff.jpg https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Lincoln_Cathedral_Presbytery,_Lincolnshire,_UK_-_Diliff.jpg https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Lincoln_Cathedral_Nave_1,_Lincolnshire,_UK_-_Diliff.jpg

We're going to need to finalize the video within the next several days, and I would very much appreciate it if you were able to give us permission to use the images and any restrictions that you may have.

Thank you very much! Alison adalgity [at] getty.edu

Your St. Peter's Square picture[edit]

Good Evening

I really want to thank you for your picture St_Peter's_Square,_Vatican_City_-_April_2007.

I was in Rome and went up to the gallery. I am 72, it was in the 90s (F) and my bad knee was hurting. I made an attempt to climb to the cupola but gave up after several steps. I resigned myself to not being able to get a picture from there. I recently discovered your pictured. I have downloaded it and included it (noting that it was from you in the exif data) in my album of the trip.

Thank you again for taking it, and more for releasing it under CC BY-SA 3.0.

Toledo[edit]

Hello! I've been a fan of this picture since I first saw it over a decade ago. Now I finally got my hands on a humble DLSR and next Friday I'm visiting the city and I'd like to go and try to recreate it. Can you please tell me, if you remember, from where did you shoot it? I see a potential church, but I'm not sure. Thanks! --Fernando 15:16, 11 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi Fernando, I can't remember exactly which church it was now (it was 12 years ago!), but it was definitely taken from a church tower. From memory, there were only a couple of large churches with big spires so I'm sure you will be able to find it. I don't know exactly how closely you want to replicate the photo (including the sunset?), but keep in mind that it was taken in December (very close to the winter solstice) so the church tower was open until sunset. In early autumn, you would probably not be able to get a photo at sunset because I would imagine they would close the tower before sunset. So you will likely get very different lighting conditions from my photo! I imagine that visiting in the morning would mean the sun is behind you and this would probably be better than in the afternoon when the sun would be in front of you and this would create problems for the photo. I hope that helps. Ðiliff «» (Talk) 00:09, 12 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    • Thanks for your reply! Yes, I noticed that the light conditions won't be ideal during my trip, but I'll try to at least achieve a decent panoramic playing with what I get. At least it won't be cloudy and dull. If I finally get to do it, I'll make sure to show it here! Thanks again and keep inspiring others! Fernando 12:28, 14 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Jim Crute moved to draftspace[edit]

An article you recently created, Jim Crute, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 10:44, 5 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Diliff, Good day. I have moved your page above to draft space. To meet the MMA fighter notability requirements, the fighter needs to have at least 3 fights under the top tier promoter (UFC and Invicta) - pls see WP:NMMA. Dana White Tuesday Night Series is NOT UFC event. Pls wait under Crute has secured 3 fights under UFC banner, add the traditional content and provide inline citations (independent, reliable sources (at least 3) and resubmit. You can inform me when you have done that (maybe in 4-6 months time after his third fight in UFC) and I will review the article and publish the article for you (note: I am one of the reviewers in Wikipedia). thank you. Cheers. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 10:51, 5 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi CASSIOPEIA, thanks for the heads up. I was surprised to see it moved to drafts since I had already included quite a few references. I wasn't aware the notability guidelines were that strict. I see that there are many other fighters who don't have 3 fights in top tier promotions. Nick Newell for example, who has an extensive 'second tier' fight record, although I see that he's had an article for many years and I suppose before the guidelines for MMA fighters had been established. For what it's worth, if you are signed to the UFC, you are almost guaranteed to have 3 fights since very few are cut before reaching that point. Ðiliff «» (Talk) 11:02, 5 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Diliff, It is normal for many of MMA editors in Wikipedia do not aware of the WP:MMA project guidelines, and I was one of them created some MMA article who had not passed the notability guidelines. The guidelines were established many years ago, and since then it editors have proposed to change the requirements many times without majority consensus success. For Nick Newell, he is a special case as we all know he is the only professional MMA fighter compete without a limp and for that he received a lot of media attention. And agreed, there are many articles in Wikipedia do not meet the notability guidelines and still in the mains space - pls see WP:OTHERSTUFFEXIST. A fighter who signed by UFC does not mean he will automatically 3 fights under UFC banner. Most do, and some dont. I have place a "histmerge" and if would be better for you to require "author request to delete the article" by inserting "{{Db-G7}} on top of the article and keep the draft article instead of many steps need to be done and ends up in article for deletion. Resubmit when Crute has secured 3 fights under UFC which I foresee for the next 4-6 months if he does not suffer great injury this coming Sunday fight in Melbourne. (note the draft article will be in Wikipedia system for 6 months before it is deleted). cheers. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 11:19, 5 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again CASSIOPEIA, I noticed that someone else has deleted the draft (the same day you moved it?) that I spent quite some time researching and creating. Are you able to recreate it in the Draft namespace so that it can be incubated until he is notable enough to satisfy the requirements? I don't want for all that work to just end up being lost... If for some reason it is unable to remain in the Draft namespace (but why? That is what draft namespace is for, surely!?), then at least you could let me paste it into my Sandbox where I can keep it for now? Ðiliff «» (Talk) 12:25, 22 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Diliff, Good day. I have redirected Jim Crute draft page to List of current UFC fighters to preserve you as the creator even if anyone create the page after you. However, do note that Wikipedia recognizes the creator of the article but no one own the article and anyone can edit the page. You would find the it HERE. Cruete has 2-0 record in UFC and I believe he will be booked for the third fight by June this year. Once the the third bout is announced you would get it write up (all of the fight and 2 previous fight results and inline citation) and let me know you have done that and I will review and get it publish in main space as he has 2 wins and he will mostly be stay in UFC roster even if he lost the third fight. What you could do is revert this version and state in the edit summary "third UFC fight announced" before saving/publish the edit and then start writing. Btw, I will change Jim to Jimmy (I will do it for your when I review the article as Jimmy is the common name that the press goes by). Besides as a reviewer, I am also an active MMA editor in Wikipedia. When Crute's third fight is announced, I will inform you. Let me know anything I could help and thank you for your contribution. Cheers. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 07:12, 23 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks CASSIOPEIA. I noticed from your contributions that you are active on MMA pages. You are right, it is almost impossible that he would be released from the UFC even if he loses the next fight so I anticipate that the article will be okay on notability grounds. You are right that he seems to be referred to more as Jimmy than Jim, although there is still a mix of both so might be worth adding a redirect on Jim Crute as well when the article is active. I didn't realise that the article still existed in the mainspace. I thought you had deleted it and moved it to draft (where it no longer exists). I still don't really understand what happened there, but at least now I have the article and markup to add to it in future. Thanks again. Ðiliff «» (Talk) 07:26, 23 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Diiff, will do a redirect for Jim to Jimmy when the page is up and name is changed. Cheers. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 07:30, 23 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Diiff, I have expanded Jimmy Crute page and linked to all associated pages. Welcome to copyedit and it is in mainspace now. Cheers. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 05:27, 18 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
