New article issues

[edit]

Hello, Dionwiggins. I have looked at your new article, and I have some issues that I would like to discuss with you. First off, the article appears to be a direct copy of the first source, which would violate Wikipedia's copyright policy. Secondly, you call the TER a "common" metric whereas this paper seems to be the only location I can find which utilizes this nomenclature. Since this paper was never published in a peer-reviewed journal, but rather only submitted (apparently) as a university research project, its publication here would amount to original research, which is also disallowed by Wikipedia. Please help me understand if I am mistaken about this article. If not, it will likely be deleted. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 13:36, 21 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Translation Error Rate requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. License tagging for File:AsiaOnline.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:AsiaOnline.png. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 10:05, 1 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image File:AsiaOnline.png

[edit]
⚠

Thanks for uploading File:AsiaOnline.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 02:24, 30 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Omniscien Technologies requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. reddogsix (talk) 21:10, 2 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Dionwiggins. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are extremely strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Dionwiggins. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Dionwiggins|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. MrOllie (talk) 12:08, 20 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I am a founder of Omniscien which is a machine translation company that is well established over 15 years. This is a list of machine translation software products. I have added simple facts (no opinion or marketing) and the list of languages for our product and a link to verify the data. I also added Yandex a competing product with which I have no relationship. I am not sure how the paid disclosure works. I am a founder and part of the organization. I noticed our product was missing so added it. The content is relevant to the page. If I need to add that I am a founder on my personal user page then I am happy to do so. Dionwiggins (talk) 12:37, 20 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Dionwiggins, Yes, disclosure is required. Up to now you have been in violation of Wikimedia's terms of use. You should also read the WP:COI and WP:PAID guidelines thoroughly. In particular you should not be adding mentions of your company yourself, instead you should be using the requested edit process on article talk pages so these changes may be reviewed by a neutral party. In this specific case, the list is a list of software that has a preexisting Wikipedia article. Your company had an article at one point, but that article was deleted, so your software does not qualify to be on that list. MrOllie (talk) 12:42, 20 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
