Speedy deletion nomination of Undersea Voyager Project[edit]

A tag has been placed on Undersea Voyager Project requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from http://www.underseavoyagerproject.org/. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Copyright and notability[edit]

Wikipedia cannot accept copyright material without a formal copyright release from the actual copyright owner, as described in Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. Assertion of permission to use is not enough.

Quite apart from the copyright issue, Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a place for organizations to post copies of their own literature. There is an inclusion criterion called Wikipedia:Notability, which is not a matter of opinion but has to be demonstrated by references showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." Significant means more than just listing-type mentions; reliable excludes Youtube, Facebook, blogs, places where anyone can post anything; independent excludes the subject's own website, affiliated ones and anything based on press releases. The test is, have people not connected with the subject thought it significant enough to write substantial comment about? See also Wikipedia:Notability (summary).

Independent references serve two purposes: they confirm that the subject is of enough general interest to justify an encyclopedia article, and they provide source material from which to write an article which is more than just the subject's own story about itself.
