Hello

[edit]

Hi. Whether over a 100 people support me or not, there will indeed be several dozen 12 year olds and uber deletionists who I have told to bugger off in the past who will turn up to join the oppose list. "Several dozen opposes" would just seem to indicate that my dedication and involvement to wikipedia is not relevant. Remember I am my own man and under no obligation to have to serve under anybody or have to edit in a strict way. If I had wanted to be an admin I would have accepted the candidacy back in Christmas 2006 not at his late date. SPECTRE is an independent fraternity!! I would have very little to gain from being an admin and just have a mop and bucket like 1500 of the others. Yes that Polish fracas doesn't surprise me. ♦ Dr. Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 15:53, 9 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cool! Yes I've just responded at the village pump. I don't know if you feel the same way but it seems to more people are trying to help expand wikipedia or the bigger their task at improving the site the more criticism or outrage they seem to arouse. ♦ Dr. Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 16:17, 9 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I hope so too. I got that Burkina Faso book weeks ago and while it was useful for some articles I was a little disappointed my it. I could probably expand a few of the smaller towns but a lot of the book is dedicated to hotel listing and travel services unfortunately. Eyewitness Guides or Lonely Planet are more attractive books I think ♦ Dr. Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 16:30, 9 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome back EJF. Glad to see what your doing with Burkina and Malawi. Since the bot doesn't seem to be running any time soon, I think it's safe to say we'll beat it. (: --I'm an Editorofthewiki[citation needed] 16:47, 9 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That sounds fantastic. You have the Lonely Planet guide for Malawi then? or were using google books? Access to 1,500,000 articles is fantastic and at $4 a month is very good indeed. I say absolutely go for it!. Not sure about Papayenga/Diambanga. Is it named like this on the site? I;d suggest a redirect from one or the other or link it as Papayenga (Diambanga). I'll try to get add a few Burkina Faso articles as I go along, but at present I'm bogged down with spanish translation. I still think we should focus on Burkina though as we did before. Good progress BTW with Comue Province ♦ Dr. Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 15:37, 10 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes go ahead and buy that subscription. Of course I am too cheap for that, but could you tell Blofeld and I your password so we can all sign in under your name? I guess I'll continue with Burkina, I just have been working on Gabon-related articles like Leon M'ba, 1964 Gabon coup d'etat (this one is up at FAC now--please comment), and Jean-Hilaire Aubame and Cote d'Ivoire related articles like the monster articlle Felix Houphouet Boigny. Good job anyway! --I'm an Editorofthewiki[citation needed] 18:58, 10 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No it would not be good for you to release the information on wiki! Hmm I thought I enabled e-mail the other day but if not, my address is editorofthewiki@yahoo.com I don't ckeck e-mail often so please tell me when you've sent one I usually like to keep discussions on wiki, but this is different of course. And I promise, I will not release the information to scammers! :) --I'm an Editorofthewiki[citation needed] 19:30, 10 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Doundougou

[edit]

I'm not sure (obviously), but either there is a second Doundougou in the Gourma Province, or there isn't a Doundougou in the Gnagna Province at all. Is there a way you can check? Phlegm Rooster (talk) 19:02, 10 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for your question. Doundougou, Gourma may exist (or may not); we have been using the official Burkinabé government website, and I cannot find a Doundougou in Gourma Province—of course it may exist, but is probably just a very small hamlet. As it hasn't been officially recognised as of 2005 (the year of the data that the Burkina WikiProject is using) we aren't planning to create an article of that place. Regards, EJF (talk) 19:10, 10 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I missed a part of your question; to clarify, I am fairly certain there is a Doundougou in Gnagna Province, as the government sources (which should be the most reliable) state that there is. [1] EJF (talk) 19:23, 10 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
So this entry on TravelingLuck and this entry on Maplandia are incorrect? Phlegm Rooster (talk) 19:53, 10 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I would assume that they are correct and that they do exist. However, I would be slightly wary of using either site as a single source for an initial stub, as the fact that the settlement has not been recognised by the government in a recent census would suggest that it is probably not notable. Using either site as a sole source would not be at the required verifiability level for a geographical article. Looking at the other names mentioned on the TravelingLuck page, some are mentioned on the census and some are not. Rather than having incorrect information, it is more likely that the site holds coordinates for the very tiniest of places, with maybe 3 or 4 houses, whereas the government census only covers larger settlements; I can't be sure, I am only speculating. I believe some Wikipedians have contacted Maplandia before, I'm not sure if it was about the same issue, or a different one. EJF (talk) 20:05, 10 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm trying to figure out where the sites get their information. I think they get it from GeoNames, which has the same coordinates (12.35, 0.333333). GeoNames only has the one listing for Doundougou. I agree the government of Burkina Faso should be more reliable than the others, so is this sort of error common on those sites? Phlegm Rooster (talk) 20:13, 10 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Maplandia appears reliable, and its coordinates always seem to be fairly accurate when tested against Google Maps. I checked my own surrounding area and its coordinates appear to be correct. I'm not sure if the Doundougou issue is an error, or just that Maplandia has even more detail than the census. Of course, the actual explanation might be that with so many different regional languages in Burkina Faso: Mossi, Dioula and dozens more, that Doundougou in one language could be called something different in another language, and may be listed in the census. EJF (talk) 20:27, 10 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps the coordinates are off a bit? The coordinates are very close to the border of Gnagna and Gourma. Phlegm Rooster (talk) 20:51, 10 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Looking at Image:Gnagna departments.png and Image:Gourma departments.png, Bilanga Department and Yamba Department, home of the two Doundougous, neighbour each other. It may be, that although a small village, it may straddle the border between the two departments, and provinces. EJF (talk) 21:00, 10 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Review

[edit]

Hi there. You may remember me a few months back when you reviewed me. I just came here to ask if you would review me once more. I would really appreciate it coming from you. Do reply here, not my talk page. Best, RyRy (talk) 08:05, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi RyRy, yes I would be glad to review you again! I could do it perhaps this evening (UK time) or tomorrow. Where would you like me to do the review? Regards, EJF (talk) 08:16, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, EJF. :) I would suggest my talk page, and then making a copy moving it to User:RyRy/Review. Best, RyRy (talk) 08:21, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

African economy

[edit]

Hi. I've started a full set of templates for each of the African economies at Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/Economy templates. Basically I see them as a good instrastructure to develop each of the economies on wikipedia. It gives us the chance to link case studies on many of the main exports/industries in the country was is very important as a vast proportion of the population is often involved in such industries. See for example Pineapple production in Côte d'Ivoire and how the template is used. Any help you can give on building up the templates with potential articles related to the economy, distributing the templates in the articles linked or filling in the red links for be much appreciated! For instance Template:Economy of Ghana has some notable content already but potentially these templates can be crammed full with articles related to the economy by African country. Nepali honey hunting

If you have time have a watch of this. It is a documentary on a British guy going honey hunting in Nepal. it will amaze you, plus there is some good scenery. The Bald One White cat 09:30, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Copywright Paranoia

[edit]

I only made a quick "Fight Club" style note of the deletionists regard for corporate ownership on here is a light-hearted humorous tone, certainly no different in tone to Wikiholism and all those others which take the mick out of our most productive editors. I normally wouldn't bother but it affects me every day on here and I'm tired of it. However I think there is a case that it could be written as a serious essay in the way that WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS and all those others are branded in discussions. It is undoubtedly a major cause for concern and the primary reason why my enthusiasm fluctuates towards wikipedia when content is deleted because of paranoia and obsession that we will somehow be sued. The Bald One White cat 10:34, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Exactly, but its not the first time I've been trolled. I'm subject to trolls on a regular basis. Yes he is highly patronizing this Damien indeed, can you believe he even insulted my grammar as if I have a reputation for poor writing!! (as if it wasn't a typo made in a quick note left before I logged out last night). my concern is that we've lost many editors because of it and a great deal of irreplaceable content including a friend of mine on here who has left. If you want to know it was a response to the alarming loss of images from Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion/2008 August 21 which were deleted despite resounding protest to keep them from other editors including administrators that got to me. The Bald One White cat 11:00, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh yes I'm currently tackling Nepal at present. I still want to finish Burkina but I was having difficulties accessing the site. Yes adding the Africa economy articles like Mining in Namibia etc sounds great. Now get that cold cleared up!! Regards The Bald One White cat 11:09, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The funny thing is that I had always planned on a career in law and did part of a course at Cardiff University to qualify and became a barrister so its not as if I am a stupid person who is clueless about law. The course bored me to tears and I got tired of studying laws and policies and left it. I returned to following the year and got a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Geography. Funnily enough the latter part of that course involved economic and legal studies in the Tiger countries of Pacific rim! It was the money that attracted me to a profession in law but there is no use devoting your life to a subject which you don't enjoy and find tedious!. I've been looking at getting into travel journalism for some time which would suit me down to a tee. Oh I still couldn't access that link you gave me it came up with the corrupt extension warning thing The Bald One White cat 11:24, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nepal

[edit]

"The geographical distribution of religious groups in the early 1990s revealed a preponderance of Hindus, accounting for at least 87 percent of the population in every region". 80% to 87% of the population is a very high percentage who are Hindu. The site has details on the number who are either Hindu or Buddhist. Probably best to either add referenced data to back up the religion claim or leave it out completely I agree. The Bald One White cat 14:22, 29 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

LOL yes I agree. The biggest Buddhist concentration seems to around the Kathmandu area and the northeast which incidentally Ed started yesterday. In that area of Nepal the religion percentages seem to be 50 50 between Hinduism and Buddhism. In other parts particularly western Nepal the population is almost entirely Hindu. Fascinating country though. Beautiful! The Bald One White cat 14:29, 29 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for letting me know. It looks salvageable and potentially of encyclopedic value. I'm in my negative frame of mind though in regards to wikipedia at present where a string of negative things happen in succession which makes me feel staying clear. It will pass but all these deletions and cyncial editors in the community is not helping the cause one bit! I need wiki cheering up The Bald One White cat 14:43, 29 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I know me neither. The last decent content I added was Deforestation in Colombia which for me was quite a long time ago. I;ve been distracted this week with images and the bad feeling I'm getting over people like BetaCommand and the uber deletionists. The Bald One White cat 14:59, 29 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Have a look at Agriculture in Sudan. Most of it is public domain Library of Congress text and it needs updating, but encyclopedically a useful edition huh? Its already 30kb!! The Bald One White cat 15:14, 30 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ah yeah, its a beast all right. Most of those open encyclopedia topics on subjects like that, Mining in South Africa etc a huge amount can be written about them because you are writing about a mass activity in a whole country. The problem is intergrating up to date info in with the LOC stuff. Perhaps its time to LOC entered the 21st century The Bald One White cat 15:32, 30 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I know interestingly many country case studies of the "lesser oil producing countries in Africa" are strangely missing. I wonder why nobody wnats to add the Rivers of Sudan yet somebody is quite happy to add a full chronology of dates in Star Wars!! I'll resume Neapl later The Bald One White cat 16:48, 30 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I definately believe in the stub creating process though. I created hundreds of articles which have been expanded like Budolfi Church etc. In my experience creating the page has a far greater likelihood that somebody somewhere has the knowedge to expand it. Some people sometimes don't bother to create the articles but will gladly expand it if it exists. If only they did that to all our stubs! The Bald One White cat 16:58, 30 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

And a nother. Banana production in Honduras. Now that makes up for my unproductive spell after all the ANI and deletionist trouble I've had this week The Bald One White cat 19:31, 30 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I noticed that you moved the Indian Nepali to Nepali India. I tagged it with CSD because there is no notability for the subject. A quick google search + another search yielded me no tangible results. Your thoughts are invited. Mspraveen (talk) 15:38, 30 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, apologies for the slow reply. I removed the speedy deletion tag from the above article as it does not meet the A7 criterion of "an article about a real person or organisation". The fact that there are notable members of that community, are 60,000 strong, and have an external reference are assertions of notability, enough to avoid a speedy deletion under the policy. A lack of notability itself is not a speedy deletion criterion; provided there is at least an assertion of notability disqualifies the article from speedy deletion. Feel free to nominate the article at AfD. Regards, EJF (talk) 16:25, 30 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. Thanks for the reply. If you can open the source and double check the number cited (60000), it would be great. Because 60000 refers to the number of people whose country of birth (column COUB) is NPL and country of residence (column COUNTRY) is IND. There is no entry for Nepal-born residing in India population. Nor is the other way round. Mspraveen (talk) 16:33, 30 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If that reference is wrong (my Excel isn't working so I can't check it) then an AfD would probably be a good idea. Cheers, EJF (talk) 16:42, 30 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. Thanks anyways. Have a good one. Mspraveen (talk) 16:42, 30 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your most recent post to Blofeld's talk page (I'm horrible with diffs) was incredibly funny. Glad you share my political views. :) Anyway cheer up the deletionists will die off in a fierce battle between them and those who work on expanding the encyclopedia, like you and me. :) You seem to be on a wikibreak--enjoy! Not sure if you know but Blofeld and I have recently taken up Nepal since it has a pop source at http://www.digitalhimalaya.com/collections/nepalcensus/form.php?selection=1 See Devitar as an example. Happy editing! --I'm an Editorofthewiki[citation needed] 22:38, 2 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

How'd you know? I feell sorry for your friend--my cousin is over there in Kuwait. It's better than Iraq, but... Burkina will take a while, but the Fritzpollbot doesn't seem to be put up any time soon. You might want to read on Sandhikharka, where in recent years there doesn't seem to be much more than battles and school banning, or Nki National Park, another sad story. If you have the chance could you Peer Review Leon M'ba for an upcoming FAC? Regards, --I'm an Editorofthewiki[citation needed] 19:34, 4 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

FYI, Synergic said that the WR comment you cited in your oppose is not his and that he doesn't even have an account there. user:Everyme 13:50, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Quite true. maggot3 is not Synergy. Jennavecia (Talk) 14:01, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry about that, I was convinced for some reason that they were one and the same. Not sure how I got that impression, I hope no harm has been caused to Synergy. Sorry for the delay as well, due to circumstances I am unwilling to discuss here. Going to strike the comment now; although I agree with many other of the points made in opposition, it would be disrespectful to Synergy to continue to oppose, given that I was presumptuous and foolishly failed to ask if he was maggot3 before commenting there. Best, EJF (talk) 19:49, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
