Hi, Ekbeale, Welcome to Wikipedia! Wikipedia-logo.png

I hope you like this place — I sure do — and want to stay. Before getting too in-depth, you may want to read about the Five pillars of Wikipedia and simplified ruleset. If you need help on how to title new articles check out the naming conventions, and for help on formatting the pages visit the manual of style. If you need help look at Wikipedia:Help and the FAQ , plus if you can't find your answer there, check the Village Pump (for Wikipedia related questions) or the Reference Desk (for general questions)! There's still more help at the Tutorial and Policy Library. Plus, don't forget to visit the Community Portal. And if you have any more questions after that, feel free to post them on my user talk page or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and someone will be by to help you shortly.

Additional tips[edit]

Here's some extra tips to help you get around in the 'pedia!

  • If you want to play around with your new Wiki skills the Sandbox is for you.
  • You can sign your name using three tildes (~). If you use four, you can add a datestamp too. Five will get you the datestamp only.
  • You may want to add yourself to the new user log.
  • If you ever think a page or image should be deleted, please list it at the votes for deletion page. There is also a votes for undeletion page if you want to retrieve something that you think should not have been deleted.
  • If you're still entirely confused, or would like to get a better grasp of your wikipedia skills, and you have an IRC client (or don't mind getting one), check out the Bootcamp. It's not what it sounds like, but it is fun and can help you with your editing skills.
  • If you're bored and want to find something to do, try the Random page button in the sidebar, or check out the Open Task message in the Community Portal.

Idlers Wiki being populated[edit]

Yup, I've started a few articles over at the main museum wiki page. The latest version of the original idlers picture has not been threatened for deletion since I changed it's license to a PR photo and listed the creator (which were BOTH in the first upload I did - but someone crassly deleted it without even asking first). We'll see if the Idlers page gets vandalized again. I'm also interested to see if there is a history for images. I didn't see where to restore the first image and was forced to re-upload it. While the image is down, the pages containing that image (such as The Idlers wikipedia page) do not look good at all. Ekbeale 00:56, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

More Updates[edit]

Updated The Idlers Wikipedia entry. I was able to load a WIKI at the Idlers web site, but authentication doesn't work (yet). Text only for now.

First post[edit]

I spent several hours working on The Idlers site today, to stave off future attempts at deletion. I also added several links to the Hurricane Katrina page, to document the Coast Guard's involvement.

Barry Wood's page[edit]

Hey there SilkTork. I went looking for my old mate Barry Wood and noticed his page now points to Trading Spaces. I know he is best known for that, but he has made other notable contributions, and is actually now part of a second TV show. Any problem reverting his page to pre-redirect? Thank you! Ed [ Ekbeale 06:53, 11 February 2007 (UTC) ]

Hi Ed. Thanks for the message. Barry doesn't appear to be notable enough to have his own page. He is listed as a presenter on Trading Spaces, and that appears to be about it. The page on Barry consisted of a couple of sentences which in a sense revealed his lack of notability. However, if you feel that he has done enough in his life to be regarded as notable we could put the Barry Wood article up for discussion on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion to get a wider view. SilkTork 11:27, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

I checked by the Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Douglas Wilson (interior designer) and it was generally felt that the designers on the show are notable enough to have their own articles. Your mate Bary Wood can be restored. SilkTork 19:40, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Frontcafesmall.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Frontcafesmall.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 07:20, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Originalidlers.jpg[edit]

Nuvola apps important.svg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Originalidlers.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Rettetast (talk) 14:54, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image (Image:IdlersLogo.png)[edit]

⚠

Thanks for uploading Image:IdlersLogo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Aspects (talk) 21:05, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

You people have to be kidding, right. Darn it, I hate bots. This is not your parent's Wikipedia, they've been usurped by lawyers. Bleh. Ekbeale (talk) 12:53, 21 March 2009 (UTC)

Eagle and bots[edit]

Actually, the bot is correct per policy. FU images can only be used under fair use; agree or not, that's the way it is. Regarding your entry of yourself to the List of Eagle Scouts, do you have something besides your CV to use as a reference? RlevseTalk 12:08, 3 October 2010 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Tollandhighschool-2008.jpg[edit]

A tag has been placed on File:Tollandhighschool-2008.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Disambiguation link notification for March 7[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
