Welcome!
[edit]Welcome to Wikipedia! I am amazed to find your talk page empty... because you have made some very nice contributions to Wikipedia. However, I wanted to ask you for a huge favor: could you please tag them for proper category and proper stub? It's very simple. Most articles would go with {{horse-stub}}. if you have any questions - drop a line on my talk page. Thank you in advance! And thanks for those amazing articles you've created! Hi! Welcome back!
[edit]Hey! You're back! Welcome back! Hooray! Good to see you here. What's been happening since you were last over here, several years ago...? Montanabw(talk) 20:15, 27 June 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, it's been a while! Working, school, etc… now in vet school. Hoping to add to some of the veterinary articles! I have been doing a few edits here-and-there just using an IP address, but now that I have access to good resources I will probably come on more often and contribute!
- I do need to get a refresher course on internal citation… where on wikipedia would I look for that information? Although I may just be able to figure it out by opening an article in "edit" and see how it is done there. Eventer (talk) 20:01, 28 June 2014 (UTC)
- Vet school ! Yay for you! (bows) Yeah, the thing that has changed a lot is that they are way more anal about citation now than they used to be, particularly the science-oriented articles. Folks really like to see the citation templates used now too, which makes formatting more consistent. WP:CITE isn't a real great page for explaining the current state of the art but does list the basics. IMHO, the best way to do citations these days is to click on the "cite" link in the edit box and then use the pull down "templates" menu to just fill in all the parameters and it will build a citation template for you. Or, another quick and dirty method, though you often have to do some touching up is to use the interactive mode in reflinks: http://toolserver.org/~dispenser/view/Reflinks You just put the raw URLs between ref tags, then run reflinks on the article, and it formats everything, though it uses web page data, so sometimes you still have to do manual fixes. If you want to steal a copy and paste, the last article I took through WP:FA was Mucho Macho Man, and you can certainly swipe any style or formatting there. For science oriented articles, I helped review rainbow trout for FAC, which used some science sources. It's now a few years old, but a person working on her advance degree in genetics worked with me and she got dominant white to GA, and that used a lot of peer-reviewed literature, though the formatting of the citations is not quite the way we'd do them now. WikiProject Equine (WT:EQUINE) (aka WPEQ) definitely needs/wants work done on the main colic and laminitis articles, they are high importance, but suck-egg quality. I'd be more than glad to birddog the formatting stuff if you want to do the tech. Montanabw(talk) 08:23, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
Whoops
[edit]I reverted your edit at the Glossary of equestrian terms, not because it was wrong, but because we are really fussy about sourcing everything added to that article and have done so since it was created. Ditto North American Thoroughbred horse racing terminology. Just find a good source and then re-add. Montanabw(talk) 03:24, 30 June 2014 (UTC)

FWIW
[edit]Just so you know, for the laminitis article see commons category of images plus my (kinda blurry) File:Coffin bone and horseshoe.jpg, File:Coffin bone front view.jpg, File:Coffin bone, side view.jpg. Montanabw(talk) 02:09, 30 July 2014 (UTC)
While you are at it...
[edit]Nice work on Pituitary Pars Intermedia Dysfunction. Care to also take a whack at Equine Metabolic Syndrome? It needs work! Montanabw(talk) 06:35, 4 November 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, hoping to add to it at some point! Still need to do finish PPID (add in treatment, clean it all up, its not very well-written right now!) Exams are coming up, so it will probably be a while, but I hope to get to it in December.Eventer (talk) 00:30, 5 November 2014 (UTC)
- All you can do is for the good! Thanks! Montanabw(talk) 00:31, 6 November 2014 (UTC)

Another one for your to do list!
[edit]Needs a lot of work: Equine drug testing. Montanabw(talk) 04:38, 14 June 2015 (UTC)
- Oh my, I'll see what I can do. Although I'll admit my knowledge of drug testing is pretty limited! Eventer (talk) 13:03, 14 June 2015 (UTC)
- I can handle the rules stuff, it's the science and the impact of drugs/health consequences/ masking effects stuff that makes me want to rip my hair out! Montanabw(talk) 17:20, 14 June 2015 (UTC)
Oh and, FYI, on your articles, try to use the citation templates, the cite journal one (in editing window, click the "cite" link then pull down the "templates" menu. Sometimes - not always - the template will even populate the entire ref if you pop in the DOI or PMID and click the little magnifying glass by the field - you can also do this with ISBNs in the cite book template.) It makes it super easier for others if there is a linked citation, even if just to the abstract! Montanabw(talk) 17:20, 14 June 2015 (UTC)

And I'm willing to help
[edit]I'm realizing that the equine lameness and treatment articles are getting unwieldy. I tagged them to generate some discussion. I think the solution is to make both into lists of a sort where they can be linked to more detailed articles on each type or treatment. A lot of potential, work, but I'm willing to help! The article Ibrahim (horse) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
All original research for ten years. The only reference is a pedigree from a database. Without independent reliable references, this article fails WP:V
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Rhadow (talk) 15:11, 22 November 2017 (UTC)
