Vanderwaalforces (talk) 23:51, 8 November 2023 (UTC)Regarding Draft:Clayton Cowgill
Hi, @FloridaArmy! I was reviewing the page Draft:Clayton Cowgill, and I believe Cowgill meets the notability guidelines for politicians. However, I'm curious if there's more information about his life as this article currently focuses on a single event. Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 18:02, 8 November 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks to user:BeanieFan11 for expanding its scope. The disputed election was a major event and indeed that's where my interest and focus was. Sometimes I'm not great at finding additional sources fo subjects beyond a particular area so I am very happy to have help. The rest of his life is quite interesting and fills out the picture. - User:BeanieFan11 if you search "Draft:Delaware" you get results for various entries including a bunch of supreme court justices. I expect User:BD2412 would be happy to have help with them and clearing drafts is very in at the moment. If I have any Delaware related drafts they are burried beneath all those justices, and I didn't see them. Thanks for your help!!!

Vanderwaalforces (talk) 14:16, 10 November 2023 (UTC)Ask anytime
Since we seem to have similar interests, feel free to ask anytime you need help with an article. I was happy to expand William Cicero Allen and am now pondering what it was like having a 82 year old teacher in high school. I tend to procrastonate on crreating new articles, but do want to go back and at least create stubs for the redlinks in African-American officeholders during and following the Reconstruction era. I even bought a book to be the main source! Rublamb (talk) 16:05, 10 November 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks User:Rublamb! Which book? I think William Roberson is pretty fascinating and I'd like to expand coverage of him, his brother Frank/Francis, their baseball colleagues, and other prominent people of that era. There's also Draft:St. Louis Turn Halle, and Draft:Richard Kent. The legislators from Louisiana and the Constitutional convention delegates are largely yet to be done I believe. They get interesting because of their diversity. I started some of the officers as well and I think I tried to get a military unit approved. I will have to take a look. A lot to be done for sure! Dive in!!! FloridaArmy (talk) 16:30, 10 November 2023 (UTC)
- Eric Foner's Freedom's Lawmakers: A Directory of Black Officeholders During Reconstruction A Directory of Black Officeholders During Reconstruction. It has a short bio of just about everyone in it, as long as I don't get slammed for just havig one source for an article. I was also going to use it to expand the article, but was having issues with computer memory and the size of the list. (We may need to start splitting it into sub-articles by state). Anyway, feel free to give me a heads up if you have a draft that is about to go away or has issues with another editor. Rublamb (talk) 16:42, 10 November 2023 (UTC)
- Foner's book is missing a lot (most?) of Florida's legislators and many others actually, despite his claims, but that's a great place to start! Working on the entries, there's not yet a lot of sourcing covering some, but I was fascinated reading about lawyers who served in state legislatures in 19th century in places like Texas and Mississippi. What was it like to be a black lawyer and to serve in the state capitol during those times. I just can't imagine. At some point the white legislators need to be covered too. So much history missing. I am a bit frustrated that historic schools are so difficult to get added these days. Also preserves like Draft:Marshall Hampton Reserve. Seems wild! But we do what we can. Still looking for the army unit I was thinking of.. FloridaArmy (talk) 16:57, 10 November 2023 (UTC)
- That's two copies of that book that list has instigated - I got one as well. However as FloridaArmy sayd it;s not as complete or accurate as presented. I've found several facts refuted by multiple contemporary news articles. I;ve reported them to the publisher but do wonder it he'll ever to a new improved addition. KylieTastic (talk) 17:27, 10 November 2023 (UTC)
- User:KylieTastic he wrote me that it is a different era now (with online searches etc.) and that there are no plans to update it. I was a little surprised. Maybe he feels unappreciated for collating all that info and getting complaints about all that is missing and wrong? On the other hand it's his statement that it's nearly complete. Far from it. But a great starting point. I think his email is on his Columbia University page? FloridaArmy (talk) 17:31, 10 November 2023 (UTC)
- The lsupress website used to have a please report any issues page that I can't find anymore, I only reported as I thought they cared, I guess they no longer do. They probably just filed them and never even told him. If Foner wants to feel appreciated he can feel good that his book has been used as a source in 247 articles so far. I guess he just moved on to caring about other things, which is why us trying to cover and expand on all those legislators here is important to do. KylieTastic (talk) 17:51, 10 November 2023 (UTC)
